You know damn well why: memetic shitposting. People who despised Flash did so because he was hamfistedly shoehorned into Equestria Girls via executive fiat. He was the poster child for executive meddling. Shitposting about how “Flash stole mai waifu” was concurrent with genuine criticism of the poor decisions Hasbro foisted on the writers and uncharitable or disingenuous retards latched onto the former and loudly proclaimed that the only reason people hated him was because he was “stealing their waifu”.
 
As to why Flash is the only waifu stealer: later love interests in the actual show were ignored because they weren’t the first, they were flash‐in‐the‐pan at worst, and because they had no impact on continuity. If Rainbow Rocks had come out shortly after Equestria Girls, people would have seen that Flash had no actual impact. Instead, Rainbow Rocks came out months after the finale of season 4, in which Flash was present. The delay combined with his appearance in the actual show cemented his position as the waifu stealer.

I never liked self-insert characters. If I want to insert myself into a picture or a story, I’ll do it over a character with character. Why would I want to imagine myself as a green faceless empty shell?
