I just assumed Equestria had its own special little sun and moon that go who-knows-where when they set, as part of the fantastical laws of nature that Equestria has. Celestia and Luna’s actions don’t seem to affect other areas of the world when they move them around.

According to general relativity there is no absolute frame of reference.
 
So “moving the sun” and “rotating the planet” are both correct interpretations of what Celestia does. It’s just a matter of perspective really.

That’s what I’ve always believed, that Celestia’s magic actually keeps the planet rotating and that she doesn’t actually move the sun. Luna might still directly move the moon, though. It’s still nice to have confirmation of this, in a roundabout way.

Or astronomers have figured out that every OTHER planet rotates, and that Equestria planet is an exception. If that was the case, most Ponies wouldn’t blink at a joke about rotating planets, even though Equestria’s planet is tidally locked.

Luna and Celestia never raised the sun and the moon. They just rotate the planet by 180 degrees each day.
