In the first case, Cadance probably had at least some measure of control over how much powering up he got, and if so seems to have chosen “all of it”. And as for the Crystal Heart, she was the one who rallied the crystal ponies around it to start powering it. In both cases, she deserves plenty of credit for the win.

Technically though it was Shining Armor who blasted the changelings (Cadance just powered him up) and the crystal ponies who killed Sombra (Cadance and Spike just gave them the crystal heart).

It is because Cadance is princess of love that she is so unyielding towards her enemies. If you threaten those she holds dear, there are no negotiations, no second chances, no mercy. This ends, swiftly and decisively, and she isn’t going to risk you EVER hurting them again.

When you think about it, Celestia’s (and Luna’s!) imprisonment also counts a bit as exile. Also the moment Twilight was going berserk against Tirek I think she would have killed him if they weren’t equal to one another. Seriously I didn’t see a single moment of mercy from Twi during that fight. Still Candy is pretty badass when you think about it (likes a bit of excitement now and then hm?) And Luna, eh…well her alter ego seemed merciless. Let’s see what the next season brings us.
