Children of divorce are often unhinged because of parental neglect or poor/erratic parenting.
Social and home environment contributes to the development of antisocial behavior. In one large study, the homes of delinquent children were frequently disrupted by divorce, separation or the absence of a parent. Depriving a young child of a significant emotional bond could damage their ability to form intimate and trusting relationships, as well as appropriate or sustaining emotional attachments to adult figures.
Erratic or inappropriate discipline and inadequate supervision have been linked to antisocial behavior in children. Involved parents tend to monitor their child’s behavior, setting rules and seeing that they are obeyed, checking on the child’s whereabouts, and steering them away from troubled playmates. Good supervision is less likely in broken homes because parents may not be available.
A child who grows up in a disturbed home may be emotionally injured. Without having developed strong bonds, they are self-absorbed and indifferent to others. The lack of consistent discipline results in little regard for rules and delayed gratification. They lack appropriate role models and learn to use aggression to solve disputes. They fail to develop empathy and concern for those around them.
Antisocial children tend to choose similar children as playmates. This association pattern usually develops during the elementary school years, when peer group acceptance and the need to belong first become important. Aggressive children are the most likely to be rejected by their peers, and this rejection drives social outcasts to form bonds with one another. These relationships can encourage and reward aggression and other antisocial behavior.
This is pretty much my headcanon for Tiara and Spoon in a nutshell.

If you watch closely, you can actually see a pegasus mare dart out of the dream house Filthy Rich was in right as it goes all monster mode in the big shared dream. Whether or not it’s significant is up for debate, but it’s hard telling with all the attention to detail the animators have been doing lately.
Mr. Rich: Ha ha ha! …no, but seriously, your mom’s name was Always Right. Diamond Tiara: Really? That’s weird. Mr. Rich: That’s just how ponies are named, pumpkin.

I say she died, and that’s why DT is so unhinged. Just don’t show her Guardians of the Galaxy, that first scene will hit her way too close to home. If it turns out she does have a mother, evil stepmom time.
It’s good to see Filthy Rich doing something fatherly.
@Background Pony #751C
The show also needs more moments of Tiara being cute and acting like a character instead of a one-dimensional jerkass, too. A scene like this would do much to humanize (equinize?) them both.

I’m not going to sit there and count words in the transcripts, but I dare say Filthy Rich has had more lines than all the Mane 6 parents combined.
@lasty
I still think Nurse Sweetheart is the most likely candidate for Diamond Tiara’s mother.

You mean her?
Any pictures of this mysterious mare?
Or his mistress…
@M-DitzyDoo
Eh, fair enough.
Or the purple and pink mare could be related to the pink and purple filly. It’s all theory anyway, no point fussing over headcanons
That could be a stepmother or maid…

Why does everyone assume that’s the case? Does divorce just not exist in Equestria?

I’m getting deja vu to my own childhood.
