Not at all Tavi. Not at all.
Ah.
So I’ve been using the word “gak” as a family friendly swear word since Guants Ghosts: Ghostmaker, released 2000.
When Canterlot Wedding aired and we had all the Gak commertials I was rolling around laughing for hours.
…I kinda prefer Kazumi’s voice over Elle’s.
What?
But you’re right, accents are wild and varied, some people get very defensive about them. I was brought up in the midlands of the UK where we have a “fairly neutral” accent, and I was taught RP(Recieved pronunciation) when I was younger so I come across as posh even though I’m poor as gak.
Trying to “put on” an accent is difficult for any VA, which is why you get a lot of over the top accents like in previous gens of MLP or other cartoons like south park.
I never heard any of the fan voices beforehand, so I didn’t really have an idea as to what she would sound like.
No offense, but when the messages are that close to each other, you don’t have to quote my whole post. ;)
I wasn’t that to upset by it, besides it’s kinda hard for me to imagine a voice for DJ. I do kinda like Nowacking’s fan-voice for her. (She does a good fan-voice for her.) But I wouldn’t mind hearing how an “official” voice for her would sound.
As for Octy’s accent, It’s kinda hard to tell what her accent is with just one sentence, but yeah “Posh” is a bit different then British. So you’re most likely right. Rarity, or Vincent Price is basically what an “American posh” accent sounds like.
Though, even if they were going for “British,” if you are British chances are it’d be hard not to hear the “American” accent in them if it’s an American/Canadian trying to imitate said accent. Sometimes their original accent slips out.
I remember one person said Octavia sounds “Irish.” Not sure about that, but that would’ve been cool if she did. (And it’d be a li’l less cliche’ then a British, or “Posh American” accent.)
Yea, I was majorly upset with the lack of Scratchie canon voice! I even started writing a rant video against my fellow bronies for putting Nowack on a pedestal so much that DHX felt they couldn’t give her a canon voice, but then I realised that I have no ability to make videos.
So I made a reaction video of something else instead (Don’t ask, I’ll just get flamed again :P)
Octavia has a really posh American voice, I don’t know why you Yanks keep thinking that anything “posh” sounding is “British” sounding because there isn’t a soul this side of the pond who speaks anything like that…
I find it odd to there wasn’t more hype over Octavia speaking either. personally I grinned when I heard Octavia talk. I was honestly not expecting it.
I was kinda expecting DJ PON3 to say something instead sense they were kinda hyping her in the “Rainbow Rocks” promotional short, merch’, and such. (Though, I didn’t mind her being silent in the movie.)
Well yes I was joking, I didn’t want to dig up any drama…
But I heard literally one person mention Octavia speaking after the film came out, there was more excitement when Lyra spoke during Canterlot Wedding.
This fandom likes things disproportionately, is all I’m getting at.
I seem to be asking this a lot, lately, but… Are you joking?
Says you, as a Brit I was offended that she wasn’t more obviously British!
Then there’s a perfect Octavia interpretation out there already so hey :D

That’s because no one’s going to be offended by insinuating a women can be British.
Or whatever that accent is.
Octavia speaks, nobody bats an eye.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
I Also Saw Cloudy Kicks/Cloud Kicker As Well :)
