It turns out communicating with the dead was far more than a strange fillyhood game to Pippin Rose. As she always said, she was never making it up, and still isn’t as she continues to possess this ability into adulthood.  
In fact, she uses her special power to become a psychopomp of sorts, helping the deceased complete their unfinished business in the living world so that they can pass on in peace. She helps anyone from family members who have passed on to strangers who soon become her friends.  
Here, Pippin is shown making a deal with one of her many clients to help her finish what she never got to while alive.
