It’s a solid game :D
Four words. Coco, Miguel, Remember, and me :P
Tears were shed :P
Agreed.
That’s how I feel when any character I like gets killed off… Usually only when they die in a sad way. (Like Optimus Prime in the 1986 Transformers movie…. The feels.. ;_;)
It’s actually not a bad ending itself (quite the opposite), but it has this one sad scene right toward the end with this one character where you just feel so bad for this poor guy that it’s unbelievable. That kind of sad that hits you like a punch to the stomach and you’re just like “Awwwwww D’:”
Sounds like every bad ending in video games.
Soaps death in MW3 (not an ending, but still tear-worthy), Metroplexs sacrifice in Fall of Cybertron, Shauns death from cancer in Fallout 4, alongside several other endings that made grown men cry.
Incidentally, the end of Ollie’s campaign? Not to give any spoilers, but this pretty much sums it up:
My mind immediately went to Oliver Twist. Because he is/was a British story.
I think so :D
Ollie? Isn’t that also a nickname for Oliver?
It’s definitely well worth a play. The gameplay’s not too super deep, like it’s fairly simple and easy but it’s really satisfying to play. There’s a third character after Arthur and Sally named Ollie, but I’ve not tried his game yet (I read somewhere he has to monitor his blood sugar level), so I don’t really know what his gimmick is. :P
Sounds like teh game gets deeper than I realized.
I didn’t even know there were other characters to play.
I’m surprised no one made a screencap of the scene in the trailer where the policemen look at the camera with those creepy grins and below that, a screencap of Batman: The Animated Series Joker with the caption reading:
“That’s my video game.”
It’s like the game itself is actually trying to trick you into thinking everything in that town is alright. It’s like the story equivalent to uncanny valley XD
Wow.
Talk about bizarre.
The good Bizarre that is.
Edited
It’s pretty crazy. Really fun, too. Like I’ve started playing Sally’s story and her game is like completely different. Same game mechanic, but where Arthur’s was all about stealth and combat her’s is way more strictly about fitting in and buying, selling, and trading. Also she literally has a baby that you need to make time to feed and change XD

I think it’s overall theme is just meant to be colorful happiness underscored by really dark undertones, and drugs that make you happy was probably the best sort of theme for that. Like the town looks so bright and flashy but people are dying non-stop and even the friendly happy citizens are murderous psychopaths. Like, in Sally’s campaign she’s making drugs for the police and they’re basically threatening to kidnap her (or worse) if she doesn’t get them the drugs on time, but when you do get them the drugs this insanity happens. It just constantly sways between really bright and chipper and really dark and horrifying XD

@Badumsquish
Yeah. I agree. It feels more like that’s the theme, and that’s what I always got from the game. This whole town just wants to drown their problems in drugs instead of facing them, and that’s different than treating a mental health condition with medication therapy.
On the “if it’s meant to be a commentary on anything”, I think it’s just a crazy game. Still haven’t played it yet but it looks crazy.
XD
@Chicago Ted
Not to be confused with Wastrels who are allergic to it, it drove them insane, and now they see THE EYES OH GOD THE EYES EVERYWHERE XD
@Nittany Discord
I doubt it. It’s probably a commentary on people who take drugs and alcohol to deal with their problems, but taken to an insane level, if it’s even meant to be a commentary on anything :D
It’s really more of a commentary on societal expectations – that’s the main stealth mechanic: “When in Rome. . . .”
Taking Joy is just part of blending in with the Wellies – amongst the Downers, it has no or even a negative effect.
Edited because: uh
Wow.
I actually was going to make that reference about how joy’s real life counterpart was antu-depressant in reply to the comment about immunity to joy.
