It was a beautiful summer day. A perfect day for a picnic, which made the timing of Hawk and Galaxy’s monthly double-date even better. However, Galaxy had to back out due to work obligations, but her wife Firefly still went to fill in for the both of them. After all, she was always down for a chance to hang out with her brother-cousin and his husband.
“Hey guys!” Firefly glided in carefreely.
“Hey Fly!” Hawk waved. “Where’s Gal?”
“Work shit,” Firefly sat down and shrugged. “Who the hell knows what that means. Anyways, I’m here, so let’s get this party started.”
“Hell yeah!” Hawk grinned and opened up the picnic basket, though not with quite as much vigor as he usually did. Ambrosia, meanwhile, was quiet and pensive.
Firefly quickly took notice. “Bro-cuz! What’s up with you?”
“Oh,” Ambrosia snapped out of a thought. “We’re just…thinking.”
“We’re thinking about having a baby,” Hawk explained, earning him a light nudge from Ambrosia.
“Yo! That’d be great! I can be its cool auntie! Which one of you is preggers?”
“Neither of us. That’s the thing,” Ambrosia frowned. “We have no idea how this would work, with the both of us being male. Especially with myself being from another world and species. A sex-change spell would be the usual way to go, but we’re not sure how comfortable we’d be with that.”
“Oh damn…” Firefly thought for a moment, observing how longing and unsure the two stallions looked. She and Gal had been talking about having foals themselves, so she knew how it felt to want one. And she cared about these guys a lot and wanted to help out however she could. So, she got an idea.
“Maybe you could get a surrogate or something then?”
“We’ve thought about it, but we’d need a mare who can handle the…potential unpredictability of carrying a quarter-changeling foal.”
“You see, I AM a changeling.”
“And someone who has time on her hooves to manage a pregnancy.”
“I’ve got plenty of time.”
“So yeah, Ambi and I would get a surrogate if we actually knew somepony who’d be up for it.”
“Hello, dinguses!” Firefly ruffled both of their manes. “Yes you do! She’s standing right here!”
Hawk and Ambrosia exchanged a glance. “Are you sure? There’s a lot that goes into this. Not just the paperwork, but the checkups, the everyday challenges of pregnancy, childbirth, not to mention the emotional toll…It’ll be hard.”
“God, you guys underestimate me,” Firefly scoffed. “I can deal with it! I can do hard things!”
“But what about Gal?”
“What’s she gonna do? Think I’m having an affair baby and kick my ass for it?”
“Well-“
“Chill, I’ll tell her it’s yours. I’m an independent mare, I don’t need her permission.”
The stallions smiled. “Well, if you really are up for it, we’d be happy to have your help.”
“Of course I am! I’d do anything for my favorite bro-cousins!” Firefly pulled them both into a hug.
They returned the hug. “Alright. We’ll schedule an appointment and start the process as soon as we can.”
