Wasn’t Luna’s model reused for lots of background characters? With the exception of the Mane-iac, the production staff only changed the eye model and muzzle shape.

They recolored the initial model and then tweaked it a bit. It’s really not that deep.

I didn’t think this was worth including, clearly I was wrong; Celestia and Luna never had their models reused. It made them unique in a large crowd of only four to six different bodies for everyone. Seeing that finally happen is jarring, and by many accounts unpleasant to behold.

All the main characters use the same body model. Older Twi using Celestia’s is, to me and some other people, highly irrelevant.

I can hardly believe I have to say this, but this is the internet and the concept of nuance and exaggeration for effect are unknowable here; almost no one actually thinks Princess Twilight 2.0 is a direct recolor of Celestia. We can all see plain as day that they remade her mane and tail to match Twilight’s. We can also see that they clearly used Celestia’s model to make her. We call her a recolor because of how lazy this looks, and considering that the final episode was full of poorly implementation reused assets from the show it has made many fans unwilling to cut this redesign any slack.

People still think older Twi is a recolor? I mean, she has a different eye shape and her mane and tail, while long and flowing, also looks different. And I think there’s something different in her ear shape. It’s like saying Derpy is a recolor of Rainbow Dash (no, she isn’t). They only share a body model!

the point is that they’re not exactly the same. people are still saying she’s a recolor in the episode
