Those are some nice specs and history, though.
From a flight sim nerd’s perspective, for the time and place where it was used:
+guns (four 30mm autocannon)
+speed
+acceleration
+climb
-maneuverability (turns and rolls like a 747)
-durability (as fragile as an A6M)
-fuel consumption (fast but VERY short legs)
…and things that don’t play such a role in a flight simulation, but there was a lack of spare parts, there was a lack of good quality fuel that the engines required, there was a lack of autocannon ammunition–some of which was manufactured by political prisoner slave laborers who had nothing to lose by sabotaging it so that it would blow up the gun when it was fired. The jet engines had to be overhauled–rebuilt completely–every 20 flight hours, and the lack of spare parts meant they could not be kept operational. The spare parts that were available were often plywood and plastic instead of metal. The high quality machined and heat treated parts the engine design required were often substituted with crude castings that worked poorly, if at all.
It was a lot like a whole lot of other German innovations late in the war, actually. High-tech tanks that looked amazing on paper but which broke down constantly, even if there was fuel or ammunition for them, which there usually wasn’t, especially later in the war. Select-fire Sturmgewehr rifles–which were too expensive, so there were never enough of them, and never enough ammunition for them. Many units had camouflage battledress uniforms like a modern army–but there were never enough of those, either. And so on down the line.
…ja…however while you may be ze first you certianly aren’t ze best…ze “Schwalbe” or “Dove” as the ME-262 is called, had better fuel efficiency und armnement, with that being said zey vere still pretty crappy, as the ze added fuel efficency only gave it a little more distance und the 30mm main guns tended to jam…a lot…

It was… unexpected.

Internet says it is He 280 indeed. But, however, it wasn’t actually in production, so Rich May probably meant to say that this was the world’s first serial jet fighter.
Also, we could let it slide since this is not our world we talking about there, so it may not be 100% similar.
Nice to learn something new, BTW
Hi there, Rich!

I meant the worlds first serial jet fighter. However, before that there was still Komet, but he was essentially a piloted V rocket.
was the Heinkel He 280, not the Me 262
