In the comics we have Sombra in a relationship with Celestia and another Sombra with Radiant Hope. For such a generic guy he sure does have a fleshed out love life.

Rarity in particular has more shipping (fics and pics) with Sombra than Discord. Which says a lot considering how bland was Sombra participation in the show.

And yet i think there are like 2 or 3 shipfics with AppleCord and none with Dash and Rarity.  
But yeah, i personally don’t see anything that connect them. Outside Fluttershy, Twilight and Pinkie Pie i could also see him bond with Luna as they both had darker past and now they also try to fit into pony society.  
Spike would only fit for crackship like any kid/adult shipping.  
Hard for me to judge Dash and Rarity as he is obviously not their type.  
And i think his ship with Celestia is mostly overrated and overblown by fans thanks to fanfics rather than actual canon content. It also make my blood boil when they say that the only reason they ship them is becasue they are in similar age and that he will not outlive her. Soon we should just ship characters based on their similar height or because they are the same race or other physical features. That would be a perfect message to kids.

They have stuff in common, though – they’re both rude, competitive, egotistical and like playing pranks. So while I don’t see much interaction between them now, I could see something developing in the future. Rainbow Dash doesn’t trust anyone, until she does, and then she trusts them totally. Also, tsundere is a thing.
 
Same with Rarity. They have no positive interactions now, but both of them are completely obsessed with their personal artistic vision for the world and driven by it, and in that sense they have a lot in common. After the Inspiration Manifestation, Rarity might be capable of recognizing what Discord is enduring to hold himself back for friendship’s sake, better than any of the others. We know now that if she had powers like his she’d abuse them as badly as he did, and now she knows it too. Also, Rarity’s chosen art form involves working in a medium where the standards are nonsensical and constantly changing for no good reason. Admittedly, their artistic visions are pretty much opposite to each other, but they could at least understand each other on the level of recognizing that the other is driven by artistic vision, even if they don’t like the other’s style.
 
But Discord and Applejack have literally nothing in common, as far as I can see. Even “opposites attract” depends on characters having similarities on one axis while being different on another one. Like, Discord and Twilight are opposites, but both are powerful magic users, and Twilight is an orderly, control freak unicorn/alicorn who keeps causing chaos, while Discord is a spirit of chaos who wants his own personal life totally under his control, so they both have an inherent contradiction where they partially contain the other one’s preferred domain. But on every axis I can think of Discord and Applejack are not similar. Family’s everything to her; he has no family. She’s honest, but tactful; he’s tactless and a liar. She believes in the value of hard work; he believes in the value of trickery and shortcuts. I can’t see any commonality, so they are the only Discord pairing I can’t see how a ship could develop for.

Only Applejack? What about Rainbow Dash? Since RoH she’s aggresive toward him or avoid him in both Three’s a Crowd and in a recent Gala episode

That being said, I read a story by a Discopie shipper which took the tactic that Discord is deeply uncomfortable with physical affection from Pinkie precisely because he is attracted to her, and he’s scared of it because he hasn’t had such feelings before and they embarrass him. Which I could possibly see. He has his pride, and it’s clear he likes to cause chaos in others more than he likes others causing chaos on him; if his feelings and emotions go weird on him around Pinkie, I could see him avoiding her. It’s not my headcanon, but it’s a valid one, in my opinion.
 
But then I think the only character I can’t see shipping Discord with is Applejack. :-)

I’m sure that Pinkie is aware that this is the guy who can create cupcakes and chocolate rain or do a lot of funny stuff. Compared to casual, occasional fun loving Celestia who only liked his one joke, Pinkie should be obsessed with him. And it’s a bit sad that she is the only one except Fluttershy who want to befriend him but it is him who just avoid her and in Smooze episode still doesn’t consider her as his friend (he said “Fluttershy will think that she is my only friend” completely ignoring mane6 and Spike).  
The problem why those triangles are one sided is that Pinkie like the randomness and crazyness in Discord, Discord like the kindness and open mind of Fluttershy and Fluttershy isn’t much keen on the chaos magic but more interested in nature and animals (which Discord like to alter for his amusement)

more then one person can have a crush on an individual. That said I think it’s safe to say Discord doe not return Pinkie’s feelings at all.

Besides, everypony knows Discord is dating Fluttershy and even if Pinkie wants him, he’s loyal!
