A part of me wonders how that happened considering magic was so op.
One thing that kept Unicorns the richest pre-Windigo event is that their authority to raise the sun and moon before Celestia and Luna was always a big bargaining chip.
But even with that done away with at some point, implying someone maybe Twilight made orbit permanent, that still leaves a lot of magic users, pre or post-magical drain.

One worry that came to mind is if RD had descendants, big if, that during the 3 tribe divide they would speed blitz the unicorns completely. The strongest and the fastest of the Earth ponies could take care of themselves, but a ruthless regiment of speed demon pegasi could smash hundreds of unicorn horns every engagement. With the unicorns crippled, and the Earth Ponies able to take care of themselves, Pegasi eventually became a monarchy instead of a military nation.
Yeesh, it’s unlikely but imagine if the collapse happened while some of the pillars were still alive, and Flash Magnus had to watch in horror as history repeated itself and he thought about old Commander Hurricane and how he eventually won from long beyond the grave.

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

The Pegasi got a civilization upgrade (Warlordism to Monarchy).
The Unicorns got a serious civilization collapse (Monarchy to Tribalism).
The Earth Ponies didn’t really change much (Earth Ponies never change).
