This, people freak over like Big Mac was some super best thing on earth. But people only care about him because he had some screentime on the show. He himself isn’t really that interesting nor i doubt any real girl would want to hang out much with a guy who either work all day or doesn’t talk all day.

Eh. She doesn’t need him. There are better stallions.

You’re welcome; I can understand your frustration and think a good argument can be made that Hasbro should just bite the bullet and allow a same-sex (or other nontraditional) couple in the show or movies, but there’s a bit more at stake for them than people tend to realize.

This is from about 3 weeks ago, but whoever it is that commented and replied to my comment–thanks for that. I literally had come home from work on that night, probably tired and ready to hit the sack, but I do look at a few things before going to sleep. You did have a great counterpoint to my comment about how The Loud House was biting the bullet on having a canoncial same-sex couple on TV, even though they are pretty much minor characters. You’re also right that pretty much having what I debated would be censored or even cancelled in some countries because of it, and that since MLP:FIM is an international juggernaunt, there are some things that have to be changed a little for it to work in other countries other than the US, Canada, Europe and other places.

Discredited? I think (I hope) we can all agree that Cheerilee and Big McIntosh showed no romantic interest in each other before taking the love poison. At a minimum, the CMC’s actions brought them together sooner than if they had been left to their own devices.

“The Loud House” also isn’t an international marketing juggernaut; if Hasbro introduces a canon same-sex couple in MLP:FiM, they’re going to face backlash from quite a few countries, most of which will probably also involve stopping the sale of MLP (or possibly Hasbro in general) toys.
 
As for “Slice of Life”, you are aware that M. A. Larson researched the fandom specifically for that episode, right? It wasn’t like he knew all the fandom tropes going in to it and just picked out the ones he liked best; heck, Hasbro supplied him with some information themselves.

No, it’s understandable. But it’s equally understandable that they could’ve hit it off. Either outcome works; I just thought the writers were headed in one direction and was a bit surprised and disappointed at the sudden switch.

I’m starting to believe that the writers are purposely sinking our most popular ships because we ship them so intensely. You know, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Seems like since Sparity, they have seemed to be going out of their way to pretty much tell us “You idiots, none of your so-called shippings will ever be canonical in one way or another. Not to mention that this show is about FRIENDSHIP, not romance”. As much as they deny and deny again that they don’t look at fanfictions or other things like that, it’s obvious that they do. ‘Slice of Life’ proved that, as well as all the Easter eggs that we see in every episode.
 
Maybe if we as a fandon wouldn’t ship characters so damn much, it would actually lead to a pairing becoming canonical…
 
of course, I also think that the writers are a bunch of trolls (or at least the old ones, I don’t have a grasp on the new ones enough).
 
And sometimes, personally I would hope that the writers did give Hasbro the proverbial middle finger at the whole ‘no romance’ and possibly ‘no same-sex couple’ showing it. I mean Nickeldeon has the Loud House, with a canonical gay couple–Clyde, Lincoln Loud’s best friend, has two dads. Why can’t Hasbro just bite the proverbial bullet and do it? Hell, make it offical that Lyra and BonBon are a actual couple, not “very best friends (and don’t believe that for a second).
