Description

All things considered, Karen Do must be a pretty conservative embellisher if she only added one arrow.

Eh, mostly I’m just nitpicking your nitpicking.

And I don’t really think she can be faulted for making accuracy a low priority, given that the books are published as works of fiction.

As for Dinky, there’s plenty of people who’ll do that, if not for Dinky than for some piece of fanon or another.

If any MLP fan tried to tell me ‘Obviously, Dinky being Derpy’s daughter is the only right option’, I’d laugh in their face.
There’s an important difference between “She calls it a score of arrows, so we might as well say it was exactly 20 arrows since we need more accuracy than the books” and “Obviously, any true fan would know that it was 20 arrows”

As for ‘Barrage’ being literal…
Eh, I just went with what they decided, I guess; They claimed she was exaggerating when she said it, and I had no reason to disagree since I’d decided she was probably being imprecise in both cases.
It probably was literally a lot of arrows shooting at her, assuming it actually happened (being based on an actual adventure doesn’t mean she won’t pad the story a bit with extra traps - she hasn’t inspired any confidence in me regarding her honesty, or even convinced me she cares about the stories being accurate)
She still didn’t mean it as a precise number of arrows, though, which is what I meant (even if it wasn’t what I said)

At the risk of looking like just a big a ‘arguing fan’ as Quibble, I really feel like a ‘Score’ of arrows was probably not meant literally any more than the ‘barrage’.
Daring Do has never seemed the type to use words in their exact meanings, rather than going for the more commonly accepted meaning.
If she wrote that a village was ‘decimated’, I would expect it to be destroyed, not to have one in ten people killed.
So, it probably wasn’t precisely ‘one score’ arrows.
If we assume it was one score arrows, why would you assume they all hit the helmet?
The way the traps are set up, usually, I am pretty sure over half of the arrows would get nowhere close to her; They need to hit the entire hallway, after all, otherwise people’d just go over or under the arrow-height.

That’s your nitpick? Not “When and WHY would she be counting them anyway?”

Also, “barrage” could have easily been literal, as no meaning of the word invokes a measure of quantity more specific than “lots of ‘em”, and one possible definition is, and I quote, “a concentrated discharge of projectile weapons”. But yeah, “score” here is probably used in the abstract “large quantity” sense rather than a specific number.

But it’s fanon. That’s how it goes. It’s not like “Dinky is Derpy’s daughter because they have similar color schemes” is airtight logic.

So, it’s a nice reference to the books, and I’d have a chuckle to myself if I had thought of something like that for my own cosplay (which I don’t do, because I’m lazy and unskilled in costume-making, and don’t have enough money to feel buying one would be worth it)
But to portray it as though exactly 20 arrows is the only right move?
Bah, humbug, says I.

wait, if it was hard to tell how many holes there are to begin with, since i doubt its visible on the cover art, how come the placements of the holes match perfectly?
