“We’re skipping right to season 7, you’re all gonna be so confused about what’s happening!”
Agreed wholeheartedly. To say that Season 4 has no vision is to completely ignore the fact that the entire season was continuing the arc that the Season 3 finale set up for us. Sure, Twilight became a Princess primarily because Hasbro wanted to push their new toy line, but in doing so the show’s writers took that gimmick and rolled with it, creating an ongoing plot revolving around Twilight figuring out where her place as a Princess really was. And that’s not even mentioning the importance of the girls finally giving up the Elements of Harmony and, after that, discovering Rainbow Power through having their Elements challenged in situations that didn’t offer an easy answer for them.
If anything, this season had more vision, as opposed to primarily slice-of-life episodes or villain-of-the week ones (whilst several such episodes were still present). Most of the episodes were inner-connected, allowing the arc to flow that much more smoothly.
All in all, I really enjoyed Season 4. Does that make it my favorite thus far? No, that would still be Season 2. But I still loved the crap out of it anyway =) .
Equestria Girls and butterfly Rarity have nothing to do with season 4, but since you’ve no objection to the series selling toys, I guess it doesn’t matter that it’s no more toyetic than it’s ever been. That just leaves your statement that “season 4 has no vision”, which is, to say the least, an odd statement to level against the first season of the series to have more than two episodes to build up to the season finale. So, yeah, I’m curious about your reasoning that season 4 lacks the vision that previous seasons had.
I think you don’t even try at all
You watch the next episode.
And when they can’t?
Then what?
No, I’m with anon in this one.
But seriously now, it’s a bloody thirty minutes long toy commercial, shit’s gonna get changed so they can sell toys (Read: Cadence, Alicorn Twilight)all the time, you got to have faith that the writers will be able to implement those changes into the story.
Wow. That was extremely uncalled for.
––What about equestria girls? Or rainbow power? There are also the breezies, and lets not forget the butterfly wings on rarity. It’s not wrong. In fact, I don’t think i could be more right. MLP was MADE to sell toys. Advertising the toys was it’s main function. Lauren started G4 with some vision that just so happened to have been been lost throughout it’s span of existence. If you think that mlp is not here to sell toys, you don’t know your history or hasbro’s habits. Don’t get me wrong, i love the show and all of it’s early merch, but i don’t like the direction the show is going. Have we forgotten that the show has lost its’ CORNERSTONE monument, Golden Oaks Library, to make room for twilights poorly designed castle (which will undoubtedly become a play-set)? That alone is enough for me to give up on any future episodes.
––I know this is all opinion, and i’m not going to throw that around as an excuse to say whatever I want, but i just don’t see any hope for season five unless they step up their game.
I can tell that this comment is going to get a lot of heat so am letting everyone know now that i am not going to elaborate on this topic any further.
This is a fandom that doesn’t just run jokes into the ground, it drives them through the crust and the mantle all the way to the molten core. And I’m (mostly) OK with that.
@bloody–mascarade
Most of your comment is opinion, and that’s fine, you’re entitled to it even if I disagree with much of what you say. But then there’s this: “season 4 has no vision, it just wants to sell toys.” That is so blatantly and egregiously wrong that it’d be funny if it weren’t so sad.
>While there where only a couple good episodes in season 4.
I wasn’t talking about you, I was talking about the image.
Who’s a troll? I was trying to have a serious conversation about the show.
@bloody–mascarade
Personally I think that the show has crescendo’d nicely through the seasons, S1 being great, S2 being better, S3 even better than that, and S4 at their best yet. And I’m hopeful that S5 will be even better yet. But everyone’s entitled to their opinion and that’s just me.
No, they don’t.
Season three was the weakest of the bunch. Not bad, but it’s far from the best.
