Description
This is my first (and probably only) entry for ‘s Next-Next Gen contest!
Name: Wickson Apple
Gender: Male
Parents: Sleep Walker and Snap Apple
Species: Earth Pony
Wickson Apple, or simply Wickson or Wick, is the result of a spontaneous romance between Sleep Walker and Snap Apple. Introduced by Applejack and Silver Shill, they found a mutual kinship as ponies of little words. Wickson was very much an oopsie foal, but he came into the world loved nonetheless. Whether his parents stuck together after his birth is up in the air.
He gets his quiet nature from his parents, though lacks their cool and collected vibe. If he’s not fumbling over his words, he’s going on a tangent about mythical creatures - courtesy of his father, who shared his knowledge with Wickson in the form of bedtime stories. As a colt, he wanted to be just like his dad. He wanted to play drums and be in a band, and would be a common tag along when Walker went to visit his friends. The adults were amused by the kid, letting him listen in on band practice and even showing him how the instruments worked. Boomer especially was very rough and tumble with Wick, acting as the uncle the boy didn’t have.
As Wickson grew older, it became clear that he just couldn’t sing. He was completely tone deaf, couldn’t keep to a beat or rhythm in the slightest. The guy sounded like a screeching cat. It came as a pretty hard blow for him, as it meant he couldn’t bond with his dad in that regard…But he was like a sponge when it came to Walker’s other knowledge. He eventually earned his cutie mark in occult history.
He never quite bonded with Snap Apple. The love is there, no hard feelings, but Wickson was often put on a back burner when it came to the Wonderbolts. His lack of wings meant he couldn’t go with his mom, and even if he could fly it wasn’t like the Wonderbolt tours were an appropriate place for foals. Snap was gone for days at a time when she was called to participate, and Wickson would be watched by her side of the family when he wasn’t with his dad in Manehatten. Grandmare Applejack, in some aspects, stepped up as his mother figure. She taught him about his Apple heritage, how to buck apples, cook the family recipes, and even told him stories about her days as the Element of Honesty. He was eager to learn, eager for anyone who had time for him.
As an adult, Wickson has grown independent and confident, even if he is a bit of an awkward introvert.
