… Ohh, well, now I do indeed feel silly.

@Vree

Yeah… my bad. In hindsight, I really got wound up over something that really I shouldn’t be getting this wound up about.

My apologies everyone.

Wait, are you talking about the whole ’them behaving like social insects’ fanon? If so, well, I didn’t really make any mention of that here.
Okay, buddy, I can tell you right now that there is Nothing in the canon, be it show or comics, that say or even suggests that the changeling minions are her children. Dude, you were about as subtle the first time as a ton of bricks. No need to go on a hate rant to hammer in a point you already clearly got accross.

Any comments were actually directed about how blunt and passionate it was about something this silly.

@PonyPon

Well, okay, but like I said in my other reply, I wasn’t even talking about that and if people wanna use it fine (just wish more fans would open up to different interpretations), but rather the perpetual victim culture bronies and fanfic writers have built around this species. It does just get grating after a while.

@PonyPon

Wait, are you talking about the whole ‘them behaving like social insects’ fanon? If so, well, I didn’t really make any mention of that here. I was talking about them being written as perpetual, innocent victims of ‘pony oppression’. As for the ‘social insect’ thing, mate, rest assured, if that’s what a lot of fans like, fine, I just wish more fans would be willing to look at different interpretations of them. But if they don’t, fine, it’s not my right to force them to change it.
Magic Man

@PonyPon

What’s not a terrible fanon? Woobie, crybaby changelings who are little more than perpetual victims to feel sorry for.

Ponies do have a xenophobic streak, given their herbivore and herd nature, but of course that does not necessarily lead into ‘fascist oppressors’. And I’m sorry, ponies really… just don’t fit the bill of the “oppressor”. Why? Because, to be frank, ponies are cowards. Here, I think Fervidor from fimfiction explains it better than I can:

My biggest beef is how people tend to ignore the fact that most ponies simply don’t seem to react to threats quite the same way humans do.
If we look at Bridle Gossip, the episode that deals specifically with prejudice, how do all the ponies in Ponyville react to Zecora? Do they try to run her out of town? Do they go: “We don’t want your kind here!”, form an angry mob, etc?
No. They run and hide. They barricade themselves in their homes the moment she shows up, and then they simply wait for her to leave. They didn’t know anything about her because they literally never confronted her at all. And Pinkie’s overactive imagination aside, they didn’t react like that because they thought she was dangerous - most of them hid from her just because they thought she looked kinda weird and talked funny. That’s a whole damn town going into complete shut-down just because one stranger showed up. Even a very aggressive pony like Rainbow Dash felt it was best to just lay low for a while.
In other words, when the ponies are confronted with an “outsider”, something intimidating that they don’t understand, their collective instinct seems to be to avoid it at all cost. Which kinda makes sense, because they’re herbivorious herd animals and running away is how herd animals deal with threats. They can go on the offensive, sure, but usually only when directly provoked - Applejack would only confront Zecora when she thought Apple Bloom was in immediate danger.
This makes them notacibly different from us humans, who tend to be much more aggressive and territorial. When confronted with someone we consider an “outsider” to our “tribe”. our first instinct tends to be to either drive the outsiders away from our territory, or plain destroy them.
So basically, even though ponies can be just as prejudiced as humans, they would express their prejudice in the form of avoidance rather than persecution.’

Them being fearful and cautious of things different is one thing, but there’s a realistic limit of how thing it can be taken.

You seem to have an irrational hate of the notion of changelings, an obviously insectoid race, resembling insects in more than just appearance.

Really, it’s not a terrible fanon.

And I’m actually pretty convinced that xenophobe-questria, while probably not near the levels some fans depict, isn’t too far fetched.
Magic Man

Okay, in case anyone is confused, I was being Sarcastic. I hate ‘Woobie Changelings’ and ‘Fascist Equestria’ with a BURNING. PASSION. Not only does it reduce this warrior race of shapeshifters into sniveling crybabies, but it also twists and warps Equestria into the antithesis of Everything it stands for. I cannot be the only one sick of ‘ponies are evil, xenophobic dicks because the story demands it’.

That is only popular fanon that everyone has parroted so much and popularized through fanfiction that they now accept it as fact when it’s anything but. That and it’s almost always used in fanworks as a cheap means to manipulate readers/fans into forcing you to feel sorry for them and claw at every shred of sympathy possible.

Centuries of dealing with a harsh Universe than can only be made habitable by constant effort under the threat of being devoured by monsters have given ponies a xenophobic streak a mile wide. True, they’ll gladly befriend you, and even go out of the way to do so. But if they get the idea that you’re a threat to the herd, you will be destroyed without mercy.

i may love chrysalis’s character for basically being a staving mother doing bad things to feed her even more starving children only for her and her kids to either be smacked down or even killed in the end but.
they still are emotion draining monsters.
