7.5 is usually considered above average. Personally I give this episode a 4. Gruncle Stan was the only good thing about the episode but not even him could save it.

I wouldn’t say the episode failed, but it definitely didn’t sit well with me either. It was definitely a very mean-spirited episode, especially towards Thompson. Just the fact that he allows himself to be abused by his friends in order to “keep the group together” really doesn’t sound right. I thought they were gonna go in a direction with Dipper where he would stand up for both Thompson and himself saying that they shouldn’t be taking advantage of Thompson like they were, and that Dipper wouldn’t have any more part of it. But nope, they just made laughing at Thompson’s misery the very thing that resolves the loose ends in the episode.
 
The awkwardness between the friends due to Robbie and Tambry being together seems almost artificial. And honestly, I’m really getting sick of Mabel being used solely for romantic subplots. She was fine without them. However, Grunkle Stan continues to work his magic, and his balloon subplot was the highlight of the episode. It wasn’t much, but it was the string that quite literally kept the episode from falling into the abyss of failure.
 
All in all, I give the episode a 7.5/10: definitely below average, but still not one of the worst things I have seen. It may be the worst episode I’ve seen out of Gravity Falls yet, but it’s still impressive when every episode otherwise is either average or (usually) above average.
