I concur.
Also I loved that part where Twist comes to cheer up Nyx.
Yes, Nyx is an OC, but only technically. She’s derived almost entirely from the Luna/NMM mythos and feels more like she’s a serviceable missing piece of the puzzle the author set up than just being a red coated black maned alicorn OC.
Yeah, she did tend to be universally loved in the beginning and acted the perfect little angel, but it’s not like the adults were going to vilify her for no reason, especially given Twilight is their friend.
Plus, the ambivalence and outright loathing she’s presented with even AFTER story’s end kinda balances a lot of that out, and the author doesn’t downplay that or try to tell the detractors that they’re absolutely wrong. Naturally Twilight is going to adamantly defend her, but it’s a mixed bag beyond that.
And of course, unlike a lot of authors, this one actually DID listen to criticism and penned some improved drafts to lessen the issues people had with the story. It can’t be said that he didn’t listen to critique or learn from his mistakes.
It’s far from the best story I’ve read from the brony community, but it perplexes me to see it be so utterly despised.
