Damm.
I’m currently studing right at the end of that era, when finaly some of that was cleared up.
So, basicly, if a work-by-post and the fast food chains team up in this world…
I don’t know about other countries, but in America, in the 19th century, the railways didn’t have to follow the government’s orders. They were the government.
They forced their workers to live in shantytowns near the tracks, and paid them in monopoly money that couldn’t be used anywhere but the company store. If you didn’t like it, too bad. There are thousands of other poor immigrants happy to take your place.
Despite massive public protest, they prevented the adoption of new railroad safety regulations by literally buying congress. It was cheaper to pay off a few politicians than to refit their entire fleets with modern airbrakes and couplings.
In the west, they owned all the land within several miles of the tracks. If there were any resources, like coal, oil, or fertile land, they’d force you to leave. In many cases, the residents refused, and then they’d call in the mercenaries.
In conclusion, fat ponies and capitalism.
East India Company can be consided more of a nation than the trains, since the trains had to do stuff the goverment says they need to.
EIC however, can use illegal drugs to make a nation weak, so they can pay with drugs instead of silver
Or the railroads. Or Pinkerton’s private army.
Oh…
Like the East India Company.
Except with a fast food chain.
Of course. Much like how the corporations of the 19th century were nations unto themselves.
as in their bodies?
Isn’t it beautiful? With the government unable to break up monopolies, pony could become a state of its own.
but, some new er jobs can be done by post, not requiring physical attendance.
one can only fear how big they would be, no longer bound by the finite money from before
Eventually, they’ll run out of money and be forced to lose weight and make some more. The market has a way of balancing out, you see.
It’s a pretty vicious system when they get to imobile levels.
Since all they can do is eat, and it’s otherwise pretty boring, hence making them more imobile…
Eat as much as you want, so long as you can pay. Capitalism is the one true fat pony system.
