Yes, that’s nice and fair and all. But that isn’t my cup of tea. I like, or at least try, to stick in the parameters of the show’s canon. If I have two ponies meet or fall in love that haven’t met in the show, I put that into AU status.
That’s why some people try to come up with ways they can logically meet and start a relationship of sorts.
That’s, once again, where the imagination comes in.

Those are some. I’m also pleased with the ones that aren’t exactly tipping over the fine line of sense.
I like logic in my shipping. If they’ve never spoken before, seen each other before, why would they become a couple? That’s like going into a crowd and picking out your spouse without even knowing their name.
Now, I can give PokeyPie some room, even if I dislike it. Pinkie Pie knows everypony in Ponyville at least by name, so she probably knows Pokey.
Those criteria are stifling and boring, and the second in particular has already given us a pretty dumb ship.
Is there no room for imagination in your shipyard? Because if there isn’t, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Like characters who have actually interacted with each other once? Or at least stood beside each other?

Mainly because their cutie marks. Many liked the implications of a pin and a balloon together. Plus, their colors and name match well, so the ship sails itself.
