I guess fans of any character you hate will come across as “the worst”. And I hate Glimmer to death and actually really like Sunset (she’s a gamer for crying out loud! gotta love that) but for some reason Shimmer’s fanbase annoys me more than Glimmers. But Glimmer still has some insufferable fans to be sure.

People asked a question, other people had answers, and were willing to take the time to share them. You may have noticed this exact process in response to your post here.
Because for some reason people really care about other people liking certain characters, and they get really defensive when people get defensive back at them, so we just end up with a bunch of defensive people who hate each other for some reason.

Bravo.
In that case, I apologize for assuming
Try again. Outside of porn I’m not particularly a fan of Shimmer.
As a fan of both, thanks for proving his point, background pony.
It’s amazing how you managed to misspell Starlight Glimmer so badly. Glimmer’s fanbase is amongst the most odious I’ve ever encountered.
OP here, YES. THANK YOU.

Edit: Its not hard to understand.
Canon or not, EQG is the only place where Sunset is allowed to shine, and seeing her get pushed to the side by Twilight (either one) is a bad feeling.
Not a completely rational one, but it gives bad vibes to Sunset fans that want her to stay relevant (even more now that Starlight secured her own spot in FIM).
Specially because Twilight has shown a tendency to steal too much spotlight in FIM.
I want to see more of all the girls, but the HuMane 5’s pony counterparts at least still get episodes. Sunset does not have that luxury, and every single time DHX/Hasbro does stuff like this doesn’t inspire trust.

Well I’m Curious Why Cadence is listed there. Considered she only appeared in friendship games.
I feel that you disregard (intentionally or not) that I was answering the question posed to the best of my ability, and that people most likely grew to dislike Sunset fans precisely because of this behavior, not the other way around.
For those that just can’t stand EQG, I don’t see anyone getting as obsessive/defensive about EQG as a whole as they do about one particular character. This leads me to think that the problem lies with the extreme Sunset fans, not fans of EQG in general. Furthermore, the aforementioned insecurity, as seen in the above image, is clearly directed at the people making EQG material, not fans who just don’t like/don’t care about EQG.

I feel like you intentionally disregard the hatred that people have of Sunset Shimmer fans just because they like EqG. There are groups that get extremely upset when you imply that it’s canon and regard it and Sunset as tumors upon the MLP name that go against everything that Momma Faust wanted.
The insecurity asked about in the two reply’d posts, but also the paragraph just before the TL;DR.
Out of curiosity, what kind of behavior would this be?
@ArterialBlack716
I can only speculate, but I think it might have to do with the kind of person the die-hard Sunset fans have to be to get so fanatical about her. #NotAllSunsetFans and all that, but there’s no denying the existence of an especially noisy group, and I’ve spent some time thinking about why.
To start, Sunset herself isn’t actually all that smart or competent, owing pretty much all of her success to dumb luck and magical Deus Ex Machina, but she was so damn cute in Rainbow Rocks (huge Gap Moe points from her Arrogant Bully -> Fluttershy transition) that I don’t think anyone really noticed. Here’s an old blog post on the subject if you’ve got time and want a closer look at that.
So, Sunset having won over many hearts with her performance in Rainbow Rocks coupled with many more adorable and “awesome/badass” moments since and fans being fans (We’ve all seen the “I like this, therefore it is infallible!” mindset by now, right?), some people have developed an almost religious obsession with her, at least as far as Friendship Is Magic itself goes. I say ‘religious’ because it depends on turning away from the facts (her regular screw-ups and apparent lack of meaningful skills when it counts, even her magical geode only working as quick exposition so far) in order to bolster the preferred image, to uphold the faith (that Sunset is ‘best girl’) with some selective perception and shouting down anyone that points out the flaws.
Once you have that, I think just about anything is on the table, from feeling that being left out of the MLP movie was “the biggest insult” to her, to wholeheartedly thinking that the existence of a reformed Starlight Glimmer is a direct attack on Sunset somehow, to getting up in arms over a character being listed as ‘other’ despite the fact that the primary characters are the ones the audience are most likely to recognize and it’s a pretty clear connection to the main series, that it makes more sense to present it this way to someone that hasn’t given the EQG stuff a look yet. It might not be related, but I’ve even seen someone say that people who don’t acknowledge EQG as canon to the main series are “sub-animals deserving of absolute contempt.”
TL;DR: I think it’s because to really, really like a fictional character without acknowledging their failings opens the door to the kind of zealotry that makes this kind of behavior seem justified to them.
