Okay, potential future scenario: There’s another magical emergency, Princess Twilight ends up back in the human world, maybe this time with the rest of the Mane 6. At some point, they all run into Sunset from the human world. She and Princess Twilight bond and after everything is over, Human Sunset decides to leave and come to Equestria.

Nah, I’m sure that their magic book operates using using 4G LTE, a modern stylus and recharges using usb, just like a modern Samsung phone. :P

Using proprietary charging cords are a good idea if your device uses a newer charging technology. Like if your phone uses a newer fast charger, but all the sudden you use a 5 year old charger “wtf, why ain’t it charging??”  
But using a common standard is good when you Just want to charge your dang phone. :p

My only issue with having a device whose battery lasts long enough that you don’t need to charge it frequently, is that you may forget to check whether it actually needs to be charged. On top of that, nowadays most devices (except for stupid Apple products) use the universal Micro-USB design to charge, whereas older phones often came with a charger whose shape was exclusive to that phone. Sometimes the charger and headphones would even use the same port; whose silly idea was that??

My old zero lemon battery used to be good for 4 days before needing to recharge, the thing was a 10,000 mAh extended battery that replaces the standard battery that came with my old Galaxy Note 3. :P

Also, it makes sense to recharge the phone as often as you recharge yourself :q (sleep)

I like Google maps, I only need a map that shows where I’m at, where I’m going and a simple blue line that tells me where to go.  
I don’t need it to talk to me or do anything but show a blue line.

Oh, I agree about the batteries and the replacing the phones–mine is degrading rapidly after only two years of use! Google Maps has saved my behind more than once, though.

Every once in awhile I find an older guy who still uses those older flip phones like the “jitter bug”.  
People would normally make fun of them for using a old non-smartphone, but I would just ask him how often he charges his phone, how much the bill costs and does he actually need the phone for making more than just phone calls?  
Usually the old dumb flip phone is all he actually needs.  
I miss my old Samsung Galaxy note 3 for the ginormous zero lemon extended battery, because I Hate having to charge my battery Every night. Ugh phones these days and their weak sauce batteries.  
But the computer nerd in me must have newer cpus, gpus and now that phones are coming with better ddr4 memory…. Actually I don’t think my phone is even using all 4GB of memory…. I am reluctant to consider the new phones with 6GB of memory….  
Replacing your phone every year is a terrible idea.

Honestly, that used to be my stance, too…then smartphones got better. They can honestly be a lifesaver, sometimes, even if 99% of apps are ridiculous scams.
