That’s a great comment I can’t really point any flaws on your thinking, I like how you and I share the view for Trixie, about Sunset though well I would prefer if she’s kept aside from the show but if in this new upcoming movie they do introduce her to the show and all I wouldn’t mind all that much, I just think it’d be a mistake giving her alicornation even if she regrets fully her past deeds… Forgiving is good but I mean it feels wrong that you reward someone who has done so much wrong with alicornation just because she’s “meant to be” while we have ponies like Rarity who clearly are not meant for it but have always in her life tried to do the right thing and help others… a little justice would be nice…
and like I said previously It would mind-blow me if they had a pegasus turn into an alicorn even though we have no real candidate for it xD
Edited
I don’t want Starlight to become an alicorn but I have a feeling that’s where the show is going, with the whole Twilight/Starlight teacher/student relationship paralleling Twilight’s own with Celestia.
…No, she should not become an alicorn.
While it I did mean they deserve alicornship, which they do or will, that’s not what would be good for them or for the story as a whole.
I completely agree with you, the time for alicorn princesses is dead. Its not the route strong characters like Sunset or Trixie or Rainbow Dash should yearn for, their generation of growing from their mistakes has to prove the old ideas of superiority and special treatment that alicorns receive is false. Twilight’s got to start making her own decisions for her life path, and characters like Sunset have got to be trailblaizers in creating a generation of magical heroes INSTEAD of magical royalty, not both.
Forgot to sign in. That last message to you was mine.
What do you think would be a fitting conclusion to sunset’s character arc?
Becoming an alicorn or refusing ascension to alicorn status?
Sunset becoming an alicorn might be satisfying in a few ways but it might take away from the message of her story somewhat.
Sunset being movie exclusive might become a moot point by the time the big movie comes out. All partial feature length movies have involved Sunset at this point, and the evolution of harmony in the EG’s movies since EG2 has far surpassed that of the show. The Mane 6 had Celestia, Luna and Rainbow Power, and they were all nearly defeated by ‘the cold’ when a baby that disproved the proof of earning alicornhood, broke the crystal heart by crying.
(also, I am interested in sci-twi’s possible appearance as shown in the cutie map flashes)
You can disagree with me, and I can understand why, but its kind of unspoken feeling that the new EG movies try way harder then the most recent finales and premiers in the show, and that Sunset has grown more as an alicorn and a main character then Twilight has.
….Okay, MOSTLY unspoken. That symbolism there wasn’t exactly unintentional or subtle by any stretch of the imagination. I’m shocked they put that in.
As for Trixie….
Trixie is different from Starlight or even Twilight. Trixie lives true to herself and stays true to herself and doesn’t need, or want, a retcon to suddenly make her more important then everybody else or suddenly be friends with everybody due to skipping past character development. She grows at her own rate and, while its a struggle, she’s never given the easy path. Comparing the amount of flack Trixie got for her actions in S1 to how much Starlight received for her actions in S5 is mind boggling.
Honestly, pairing Starlight with Trixie as Trixie’s partner was the best thing that could of ever happened to Starlight after S6’s ‘spike’s so close with Starlight he hugs her in public’ character-growth skip. Trixie’s issues bring out the most un-erasable aspects of Starlight’s own personality. But as for alicornship, Starlight honestly has no place in alicornship cause her overuse of magic and apprenticeship makes her a carbon copy of Twilight in many respects, and a direct clone in a few more, so her being an alicorn would mean nothing. Her friendship with the other’s was abridged, we only see her in a few of the all 6 main character episodes, and so forth.
Like Sunset and Rainbow Dash, Trixie fights for every inch, and although her stuggle is more uphill then most considering how miserable her life is, she is never given the easy route. While she’s not exactly proven herself in the show to be Luna level status alicorn YET, she’s DEFINITELY the second most worthy unicorn to become an alicorn to some degree, below Sunset. :)
In short, the show ought to be getting Trixie and Sunset their props soon.
Edited
I agree with you till you mention sunset for alicornation, given the fact she’s movie exclusive, and lets face the odds of her appearing in the show are zero we should focus on either Starlight or Trixie or who knows… Don’t some say Cadence was a pegasus at some point? I would actually be amazed if a pegasus involved into an alicorn
Starlight becoming an Alicorn?…only if Trixie and Sunset also become Alicorns with her. Because it’s my belief that those three belong together. Otherwise she should stay a unicorn. This show has to many alicorns as is. Sunset is my preference for alicorndom but only if the writers are dumb enough to go that route.
Edited
Finally, someone who gets it. If only the showrunners had enough creativity to make that come true.
I totally agree with you, it is like Rainbow becoming a wonderbolt, it didn’t just happen because she was meant to, she wanted it and worked hard to get and it took solid 6 seasons until she was finally an wonderbolts officer.
Trixie she has been making a very very long way, learning about friendship about magic about life across the entire Equestria, she has proven to be very smart and good hearted despite her limitations.
Sure she’s not as powerful in magic as Starlight but she’s also gifted in it, her cutie mark is magic just as much.
Anyways she’s more deserving for all her true learning and hard working than those who’s destiny was that all along…
Twilight and her clones can piss off. Trixie has a much more believable level of talent, and having her build the path to success would be so much better than watching Twiclones #1 and #2 fulfill their “ultimate destiny”. Watch, next season or two we get midnight twinkle or some crap like that. Boring. I’ll take Trixie over these pukingly special, self-insert garbage characters any time, any day.
Sunset could have been but she’s burnt that bridge, and Twilight took her place as Celestia’s prized pupil. Starlight is Twilight’s own project, as it were, so if there’s to be two “successors” it’d be Twilight and Starlight.
I predict Starlight’s own ascension within two seasons or so.
Well, Twilight has already claimed Starlight for herself so luna is stuck with either Trixie or moondancer. Or perhaps both? Moondancer and Trixie interacting would be interesting to see.
It would never happen though. I’d much prefer sunset to get her own group, preferably Glimmer and Trixie.
“Another five months.”
“Great. Can’t your sister-in-law help you do this?”
“Two words: Alicorn. Toddler.”
“Say no more.”
Trixie would be better than Sunset, I don’t like lazy hackjob characters.
