Depending on the game, Fallout takes place anywhere from eighty to two hundred years after the war. Metro takes place about 20 years after the war.

That and Fallout is alternative history where the 50´s never ended while Metro is based while drawing reference from reality. (mutants and the dark ones not withstanding)
