Part 5 of my ongoing ponies on wasteland drug series: Background-apple-horse on Med-X! It explains the internal crying…
Meh; I treat each piece as a learning experience. I learned a lot from the mistakes made in this pictures that, hopefully, I won’t make on the next one. While it’s nice to receive praise from the fandom, I’m also not all that bothered if a lot of people don’t like this particular piece. I’m not about to rush out and “fix” it just so more people will like it =P It is what it is, flaws and all, and I’ll try to do a better job (quality-wise, and gauging my audience) on the next one.
Maybe you should work one it a bit more, and make it work a bit better out-of-context. Also, it may be that you’re implying that Applejack doesn’t cry because she’s a bit detached from reality, so there’s that. I could be wrong.
I had the same thought, actually! I’m chalking it up to a few things:
a) I might’ve fired a shot across the bow by referring to Applejack (jokingly) as a “background horse” in the description =P This might’ve ruffled Applejack fans’ feathers.
b) In a similar vein, Applejack fans may have been upset with my putting a bear trap on Applejack’s arms (may have seen it as my trying to show dislike or wishing harm upon Applejack - also not the case!)
c) The art itself - I’m actually not all that pleased with how this one came out - For whatever reason, I didn’t notice that the eyes were a bit messed up (namely, they’re too far apart) and her mouth looks weird to me. So people might just think the art really sucks =P
d) Lack of context - If people don’t play Fallout, they might lack context for this picture. And, let’s face it, without context, it’s actually kinda horrible: Applejack’s got a pretty painful-looking injury, and she’s got a couple needles sticking out of her arm. I might’ve gone too far and lost the joke in there, and should, perhaps, have tried something more lighthearted (I’d toyed with the idea of instead drawing her with a cast).
Heres some Vitamin-M.
It’s just pain soldier, have some juice and suck it up.
