It’s not truth because a character who is enthralling to watch and be attached to will always appear to be mediocre to another.  
Applejack is in the weird position of the occasional “straight mare” and the sill pony we know and love, so she doesn’t excel, but I think this just makes her a (apple)jack of all trades.  
I honestly find Dash the most boring, anyway.
