Oh my gosh this is so cute! Wonderful little story there, 10/10, incoming hugs
Aw, you beat me to it. I was gonna mention that Velvet made some ice as a icepack for Arizona’s black eye and Arizona gave her bandanna as a makeshift bandage to Velvet’s foreleg, showing that there’s no hard feelings between the two.
Least kudos for making it a nice story.
Velvet did not respond, as she wrapped the handkerchief around her foreleg, setting the makeshift cast tight. It was a serious injury, no doubt, but the bovine had been kind enough to lend her her signature adornment to brace it with. And it wasn’t as if she’d been the loser either… the Key was stored away safely within her inventory.
It wasn’t untill she finally stood up fully, favoring the broken limb, that she finally spoke. “… such things are to be expected, I suppose. I… do not harbor anything towards you. It simply means that I was a little… less than perfect.” the admission stung her worse than the pain being broadcasted from her leg.
She took a moment to study the cow herself, particularly the impressive shiner that had developed over her eye. A hint of worry colored her voice as she spoke again. “What about yourself? You’re not… without injuries either, you know…”
Arizona shrugged, looking away. “Ah’ll heal.”
“W-well yes, but… don’t you need medical attention yourself?”
“… meh. Ain’t been th’ first time. An’ don’t you go invitin’ me t’ join you, ah seen th’ way yer folk give me th’ stink eye. It’s alright, really. Ah’ll heal.” She draped a hindleg off the ledge. “‘Sides, wouldn’t be th’ first time. Won’t be th’ last.”
For some reason, these words made the reindeer even more downcast. As the victor of this bout, she had every reason to ignore the calf and simply carry on. And as the most injured, she had every reason to tend to her own self first. And yet, a small sliver of a voice was speaking out in her heart, that for all the trouble the cow had caused…
Arizona flinched as she heard the telltale sound of ice forming. But to her amazement, it did not coalesce anywhere near her. Instead, a floating stalagmite of ice hovered before her, before it broke up into smaller pieces, a plastic bag materializing beneath it. The sudden ice pack then floated over, and landed at her hooves.
She stared… and then, she accepted it, picking it up, before pressing it against her bruised eye, hissing at first at the contact, but then letting out a sigh. Looking to the reindeer watching her worriedly, she fixed them with a long gaze, before a smile formed on her lips. “… thanks.”
Velvet nodded, her calm demeanor not fully hiding the expression upon her face. “… Arizona… the next time we meet… I’ll give it back.” She waved her foreleg, the bandaged one, with the cow’s hankie upon it. “I’ll give it back to you. And we won’t fight. I think the both of us have had enough fighting to last us a while… deal?”
The cow let out a pained chuckle, but at length, she replied with a firm, almost friendly look. “Deal.”
And if the fight’s right/The fighters just might/Decide to be friends/And make amends
“As long as we’re clear on that we’re cool… Get it?… Cool?… Because you can use that fancy ice magic and…”
“Ugh… My head…”
