I agree! It is her color!
I couldn’t have said it better myself! I always told people Trixie had pretty good magic, besides Twilight she’s the unicorn whose done the most spells.
Look, this argument is going nowhere, so let’s call it a truce for now, and if you feel that strongly about it, you can message me or something. Ok?

I don’t remember Suri being talented at all; she stole Rarity’s designs and had Coco make the dresses. As for Flim and Flam, their first machine was sub-par and cracked under pressure, and their second machination was a failure with an obvious weakpoint; as both tinkerers and conmen, they’re not good. LD is a sociopath as far as we know; it won’t matter much how swell she is at anything as long as that remains.
Trixie is nowhere near as powerful as Twilight (but at this point no one is, anyway), but she’s one of the most versatile unicorns in the show even after 5 seasons; other unicorns have basic levitation, or at most a signature spell, with other displays of magic being caused by some external factor (swapped cutie mark, cursed magic book,…). Trixie’s shown at least teleportation (or matter creation), transmutation, weather control and pyrotechnics, plus standard levitation. And being buff enough to carry her wagon around dirt roads, the showmanship to draw in a crowd, and given her stint on job she despised, the mental willingness and focus to not be destitute.
Flim, Flam, Suri, and Lightning Dust are all very talented ponies. Trixie is not. Although you’re right in that it’s unthinkable that Fluttershy would discard the dress, it’s possible she gave it to Trixie to cheer her up.
Although it’s more likely that in canon, LD would be the first to be shown as homeless following her boot from Wonderbolts Camp. It’d make for a nice lesson on sympathizing for people who were jerks to you in the past.
AFAIK we’ve never seen her get paid for parties, just that she does them. We have seen her tend the bakery’s counter, and I think it’d be a safe assumption that she either gets paid for that in coin, or it directly pays for her boarding.
The original point still stands:
It’s extremely unlikely Fluttershy would throw out a signature dress
handhoof-crafted by a friend. It’s very unlikely a character that’s shown an above-average willingness to work, even in a field opposite of what her talents may be, and keeping in mind she would drag her home and stage from town to town, would be Equestria’s first homeless character; particularly in a world where you can just eat grass and whatever fruit you find for free. We may as well assume Flim & Flam are homeless as well, and I’d think they’re just as if not more notorious. Or Suri, or Lightning Dust.
Does Pinkie get paid for parties?
Or does she just kinda do them on her own?
I’m sure that Pinkie makes plenty of money hosting parties. She hosts birthdays for every pony in her town, and probably also plays a major role in whatever celebration they happen to be having on any given week. Baking is probably a hobby supported by working at the store in exchange for free ingredients and use of the kitchens. Rainbow Dash’s talent is flying really fast, which won’t do her any good until she’s accepted into the Wonderbolts. She does do some weather control, but so do all grown pegasus ponies except Fluttershy, and in general she is shown to be idle a lot.
As far as the stage persona thing goes, yeah that was probably her shtick, but her problems in Ponyville got her shtick misinterpreted as genuine dishonesty and I’m sure that makes doing business in Equestria very difficult. Also, it’s shown that Trixie is neither very talented, nor very bright. This means that her act was what she had going for her until that got taken away.
Granted, according to the comics, she got back up on her hooves working with the police, then got framed for the heist she was trying to prevent, and then was cleared and is presumably still working magic. But her job appears to be low-grade prestidigitation acts in a world where real magic is common. I imagine she never was making very much and still isn’t.
The “born into their jobs” thing is barely followed in the show. Just from the M6, Pinkie Pie’s talent is parties, but she earns her keep tending a bakery, and Rainbow Dash’s talent is speed racing, but she moves rainclouds around for a living. Nevermind that we don’t know Trixie’s “born into” talent, just that she likes fireworks.
As for lying, it’s part of her stage persona. Plus, I doubt someone who had “liar” as a primary character trait would have bothered getting a job, then actually paying for the amulet in full; one of the few things we actually saw the character do on her own while not playing up her persona or under a curse, other than apologize and trip over herself.
You are not Trixie. You do not live in a world where most of its inhabitants are more or less born into their jobs and employment is dependent largely on natural talent. I imagine hiring opportunities in Equestria are vanishingly rare. Then again, you are also not probably a liar.
If I were working in data entry or telemarketing, I’d also claim it was a job taken out of desperation and my “last resort”; doesn’t mean there aren’t actually a boatload of other jobs I could do to keep a roof over my head.
I guess that’s a question for the artist.
Ok, but that re-opens the initial question of ‘What is Trixie doing with Fluttershy’s old Gala dress?”
According to the comics she is once again a travelling magician, and she could still have money from the dumb rock farm, it was never said she spent it all, and unless the show says otherwise, the comics are canon, plus, they’ve done enough to her already, they wouldn’t come back and say she’s homeless or anything for multiple reasons, WHEN not if, they bring her back they’ll probably start building her back up again.
“Liberal interpretationof events”? That’s literally what Trixie said was the case. She made it clear that life on a rock farm was a choice made from desperation. Granted, she managed to scrape enough together to blow on the Alicorn Amulet, but after Magic Duel she couldn’t even return that for a refund, and was chased out of town again with an even worse reputation.
That’s a liberal interpretation of events. And Pinkie was trying to be insulting and protecting her family business, not stating facts.
She lived on a rock farm because she couldn’t hold down work anywhere else. Pinkie said she was lucky she got that much, and Trixie gave the impression she wasn’t cut out for it.
I can assure you they absolutely do not throw them into the trash, and considering Trixie was willing to work on a rock farm and before that was a travelling showman, I’d assume she’d be more than capable of keeping herlself off the streets.
I honestly don’t know what girls do with one-time event dresses after getting new ones, and Trixie is homeless because her home was crushed by a giant space bear, and the last place she lived (outside the comics) she was kicked out of for attempting a hostile takeover.
Pretty sure there’s a scene showing Fluttershy still has her dress in her home, and I can’t imagine why she’d throw it away. Or why Trixie would be homeless.
It’s Fluttershy’s old dress, and Trixie’s homeless, so… the trash?
