I personally like Vegas more than the prequels.  
It has more “action and effect”, and kinda more hilarious.  
Albeit still can’t beat Fallout’s and Fallout Two’s jokes.

Be sure to get the DLC’s for New Vegas, good bit of content and has it’s own interconnected story.  
Also Old World Blues is one of the greatest DLC’s of all time.

Seriously, though, I kind of don’t like the first game for a few reasons (nothing to do with the storyline), and as far as I can tell, the second game is kind of the same. So I really don’t want to go through the hassle. But, if it’s for story, I might as well endure…

why
When exactly was Fallout set again? Because I’m fairly sure tetris wasn’t invented until the 80’s, and I’m also fairly sure that the bombs dropped in Fallout before the 60’s. At least, judging by the adverts that you see sometimes.
 
Then again; screw logic, acquire radioactive wasteland that apparently has tetris.
