I think Sunset will got her elements of harmony someday.

The whole duality theme between Twi and Sunset seems to get reinforced more and more with every new movie, this time it being played up with actual symbolism. Intertwined futures or destinies, maybe? Or an end to a character arc?

Sunset is actually seems to be slightly taller than Sci-Twi, if you compare the height of their shoulders and eyes. >>989715 Though I guess that could be simply because Sunset is (supposedly) older than Twilight, not because she suddenly became an alicorn.

I, on the other hand, am 95.5% sure that Sunset has ascended and become an Alicorn. Twilight Ascended when she had her revelation about the true nature of her destiny and friendship, then the power of the elements of harmony transformed her.  
Now as for Sunset, Celestia would most likely have chosen her as a personal student because she could see the potential, like she did with twilight. Once again we see a character have an epiphany, when Sunset Shimmer realises the true nature of things and that she is (probably) the element of forgiveness. at that point the elements of harmony join together and she gets her wings. hence she becomes a star in the sky with twilight. The parallels are to striking imho to ignore.

The setting sun, passage of an age. Could be the end of the age of Sunset being evil is now formal. You’ll see a shape of a phoenix in the sun/star fire. Rebirth after the fire. Her apparent star is shining alongside Twi’s. Could she be on the way to apotheosis and becoming an alicorn also? We’ll see maybe.

Kinda wish we had a like button for comments. I don’t have much of substance to say to this, but I like it, and I want to acknowledge it.
 
But then again, I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about like buttons, so eh.

…Lexically speaking, a Sunset Shimmer = a Twilight Sparkle. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but maybe it’s a “changing of the guard” type of symbolism.

I’m 95% sure she hasn’t. Being the focus point for pseudo-elements shouldn’t do it when the real elements of harmony didn’t do it (when they were used on villains, I mean), her wings were energy instead of physical like Twilight’s, and she didn’t seem to get any taller (Pony!Twilight is slightly taller than Scitwi).

I can’t help but wonder if Sunset became an alicorn. Because that intake of energy from the five others was very familiar, and… you can’t actually tell in EqG.

I think that it means that Sunset is now finally the first main character and Sci-Twi the second one of the EQG franchise.

Predicting it now, the 2017 theatrical movie is going to feature some sort of really devious new villain and some huge calamity where either directly or just in spirit but without actually replacing them Sunset and Twilight are going to become the “new” Princess Celestia and Luna.
