This.

I’m used to drawing characters with dot eyes, which makes drawing ponies virtually impossible; EQG characters are the best I can do. I tried the “dot eye in circle” approach once (see my Lyra pic) and even that didn’t go well.
It’s caused me to call quits on so many good ideas, one of the best being “Chocolate Rain” (a parody of the Prince movie poster, but with Discord)

My tablet lets you see the pen/brush/whatever just fine even when not in contact with the surface. You have to hover over it but the hover distance is actually quite high. I’d say 3/4 to 1 inch. I though the same thing actually when I first gt it; that it would be so wired to draw with but now I actually prefer it to paper or on-screen. This is the tablet I use It works great and is cheap too!

Theoretically I’m sure its fine.

But I just can’t. I can draw better with a mouse than with a tablet because I’m used to that control scheme. (And because the mouse cursor moves where I’m pointing between strokes.) I think if it could track the stylus relative to its surface even when not contacting it like a mouse does, I could get a handle on a non-displaying tablet, but otherwise its like trying to do a task with your eyes closed for me.

I have a tablet like that. Honestly it’s actually not bad and in some ways even better than an on screen. Your hand sometimes gets in the way and you can’t see plus it’s nice to look up instead of leaning down. It’s better on the neck.

And this is why I want a screen tablet. Because I can’t wrap my brain around the hand-eye displacement shit you do with a regular tablet, not looking where you’re drawing or being able to see where exactly you’re aiming at before you put pen to surface unless you manage to do the one-millimeter-hover thing, but I REALLY wish I could save halfway through and have multiple attempts with what I start drawing.
