Hmm yes of course, but I don’t think that the group of 7 pony friends in Tales were ever referred to as the Core 7 in any marketing anywhere (obviously, it’s never used in-universe even for G3/.5 anyway, but…)

And most of the ponies that fans of G1 remember most fondly from the classic G1 era tend to be the ones who appeared in the two initial specials and the movie, not actually the series proper that followed them. :)
