That’s what I personally think happened in the Sonic games’ aftermath of SA2 as well.
Though Sega was asked about the moon’s state at a Q&A one time and they said that we’re just looking at the good part of the moon.
That moon was repaired by Eggman. That fact was stated in Sonic X, but I’m pretty sure that’s what happened in the overall canon, since the full moon is still in subsequent games.
My confidence has been restored.
And I love them more than Luna.
I can say with confidence that I know that Sonic the Hedgehog’s world should have some fucked up tides, considering their moon was blown in half.
