I was talking about Celestia, not Starlight Glimmer.
As if the equal signs aren’t enough?
Obviously some of the townsponies were keeping an eye on them. And you wouldn’t know it if they were.
She locked the mane 6 and one resident in a house and played propaganda over speakers when they came out against her ideas.
Yes she does. Or did.
I think that the best future for mankind is one where we develop an advanced AI and give it an infinite army of robots, and just have it act as a mediator and interventionist. It runs the economy and the law while allowing humans to run it’s ideologies and policies without intermingling morality with politics.
I actually agree with that sentiment. A benign, competent monarchy is the best government. The only problem is with humans, the “benign” and “competent” parts usually don’t last very long. You can circumvent that issue with a nigh-immortal being, with the added bonus of all of their old age giving them lots of wisdom and experience - at least this is true in Celestia’s case.
That’s fine. I like Celestia too.
Well, I agree, but that’s mostly because I believe that the best government system is the power centralized on one almighty, completely neutral being.
Darn straight. Have you done your sun praises today? You know the world would be a much better place if only people would obey our beloved princess!

your current filter.Seriously, though, I’d take her reign over any human government in the blink of an eye, hooves down.
PRAISE THE SUN!
@441TheSecond
Thank you!
Also,

your current filter. The President is sworn to uphold the Constitution, and his authority is limited by the legislature and the supreme court. Equestria has no legislature, no supreme court, and no constitution. Just a thousand-year dictator who can do whatever she wants. A benevolent dictator, but a dictator nevertheless.
Whether or not “hate speech” is something that should be suppressed for the good of society is a moral decision. If you don’t think it should be suppressed, then that’s your prerogative, but that doesn’t make suppression of certain freedoms necessarily totalitarian.
“Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state holds total control over the society and seeks to control all aspects of public and private life wherever possible.”
Y’now, shit that Celestia doesn’t pull. She doesn’t control every single aspect of the lives of Citizens in Equestria no more than the President does.
>Strictly definitively speaking, it’s true. That’s why “weasels” use that argument in the first place. The moral question of exactly what should be suppressed and how is another matter.
No, that’s how you slip shit through the goalposts.
“Well, Murder and prejudice is a crime, right? Well, let’s ban hate speech too, since those threaten those rights, right? Let’s also ban mildly racist depictions in media too, that could lead to hate speech. Let’s ban this too even though it’s only racist to the incredibly paranoid. Let’s also ban giving poor test scores to black people because that’s a microaggression, which is a form of hate speech”.
You give them a finger they’ll rip your arm out of it’s socket. I have no tolerance towards freedom haters.
I’m not saying Celestia is no different from Starlight Glimmer in other respects, just that they’re both totalitarian. Celestia’s approach is a teeny bit more liberal in a few ways, but she’s still technically totalitarian.
Strictly definitively speaking, it’s true. That’s why “weasels” use that argument in the first place. The moral question of exactly what should be suppressed and how is another matter.
Just because Celestia has the final say in everything doesn’t make her totalitarian, she doesn’t lord that power over everybody, she doesn’t crush everybody under her might. It’s pretty clear that even though she’s the highest order, she still has to answer to the people and to local governments.
Fucking stop trying to say that Celestia is no different to Starlight Glimmer. Just because Celestia holds the highest power in Equestria means NOTHING, I know it’s really fucking hard for you to imagine, but this is fiction, therefore, a character holding massive amounts of power and not being a power-tripping egomaniacal petulant little fuck can totally happen, and it should happen, because I have enough shitty fucking corrupt politicians to deal with in real life.
>This may surprise you, but that also counts as suppressing freedoms, speech, and beliefs.
No it’s not, and that is a stupid fucking argument. It’s an argument used by weasels who like to censor things that they don’t like.
This may surprise you, but that also counts as suppressing freedoms, speech, and beliefs. That’s not a bad thing. There are certain things that a society just can’t tolerate if it wants to remain a cohesive unit, like theft and murder.
1, 2. There is such a thing as delegation of authority, and there’s also such a thing as a titular position. It’s pretty clear that Celestia has the final say in everything even if she doesn’t decide literally everything, because that would simply be impossible.
3. It’s not that they don’t have power. It’s just that they’re beneath her in the chain of command.
>How is it evil? Every society does all those things to a certain extent. That’s just how societies work.
Yeah, you can’t murder or steal in society, but you can be whatever religion your want, and you have the right to not be discriminated due to your gender, religion, or ethnicity, you have the right to believe in what you want and do whatever you want so long as it’s not illegal. Nobody’s going to bust you for criticizing the government.
>I never claimed she did any of this, except for the part with absolute unquestionable power, in which case she does.
How is it evil? Every society does all those things to a certain extent. That’s just how societies work.
I never claimed she did any of this, except for the part with absolute unquestionable power, in which case she does.
Yes it IS! She has no reason to do it whatsoever, Ponies aren’t a combative, violent species whose freedom needs to be suppressed, freedom isn’t something fucking cheap. There is no reason for her to be a Totalitarian other than selfish motives.
And once AGAIN: SHE HAS NOTHING IN COMMON WITH A TOTALITARIAN DICTATOR. DOES SHE HAVE GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA EVERYWHERE? HER OWN THOUGHT POLICE ENFORCING HER WILL? IS SHE KIDNAPPING PONIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO REEDUCATE THEM THROUGH TORTURE? DOES SHE HOLD ABSOLUTE UNQUESTIONABLE POWER? NO! SO FROM WHICH CAVERNOUS ANUS ARE YOU PULLING THIS SHIT FROM?
Not necessarily.
She technically is. Technically.
Because that’s what a totalitarian is! Suppressing freedom, speech, and differing ideologies is something that an EVIL person does!
Since when did I say I was putting Celestia in a villainous role?
Wait. You aint joking about thinking she’s a totalitarian despot?
I don’t know what strange warped universe version you received on your screen, but I want to see it.
Again: Where is your proof other than idle speculation? Why the FUCK are you so damn obsessed with putting Celestia in a villanous role? She already gets enough shit from hack writers who don’t know how her character works, Luna Zealots who want to make sure that their favorite character looks good, and an uncaring negligent staff of screenwriters.
