Apparently, the more words there are to refer to something in a language, the more important and central that thing is to the culture that speaks that language.

You could well be correct in that. ;)
There are certain points at which I believe that the English language is trying to troll us.
It’s magma when it’s inside the Earth; it’s lava when it spews out (as in a volcanic eruption).
I feel it’s a little pointless (not to mention confusing for many) having multiple names for something depending on where it is; like how a space rock can be a meteoroid, meteor, or meteorite depending on whether it’s in space, screaming through our atmosphere, or crash landed on Earth. xD
I dunno about G1 Spike, but G4 Spike eats gemstones and breathes fire, so it’s possible his vomit literally is lava. (Or magma. I forget what the distinction is.)
Their vomit must be like lava.
