Again, it boils down to the writers who are at fault. Also, Pinkie did have purpose in the episode. She was to beat Big Mac in turkey calling. So she did have a use. Granted, everything else she did was just wrong

That’s alright. I’m probably a little defensive about it considering I don’t like Pinkie Pie that much, either. I’m a bit of a heretic; two of the most popular characters I hardly care for.

Which, y’know, was sorta the whole flippin’ point of the episode…

Eh, I figured otherwise. I’m so used to seeing this fandom approach their criticisms of the character with such incredible double standards in comparison with their approach to many other characters like Rarity and Pinkie Pie that I’ve just become bitter about the character myself.
 
Fluttershy does something good, everyone treats her like a fucking paragon of virtue. She does something wrong, it’s the writer’s fault and the episode is horrible for Fluttershy being OOC. Rarity does something good nobody even notices it, but if she does something wrong then everybody is up in arms. The latter is applicable to nearly every other Mane 6 but the former is exclusive to Fluttershy, so I’d be lying if I were to say I don’t treat every comment like that with a shitload of cynicism.

To be completely honest, I don’t like Fluttershy. I never thought she was as cute as anyone said she was. And she’s shown rather poor behavior choices before, such as in “The Grand Galloping Gala” where she went insane when she couldn’t find an animal.
 
However, I do agree Fluttershy’s behavior in PYHD was worse.

TL;DR - Fluttershy’s behavior in PYHD was inexcusable but explained, but the writing in FV was a mess for not explaining Pinkie’s behavior.

I’m not arguing that Fluttershy’s behavior was better than Pinkie’s. I’m arguing in terms of plot of the episode, Pinkie did not belong in Filli Vanilli. Pinkie and Rarity’s portion was crucial to the plot of “Putting Your Hoof Down” because they showed Fluttershy how bad she was really getting when she took that seminar too far; Pinkie’s portion in Filli Vanilli seemed to do nothing but rile Fluttershy up and had no real plot importance, not to mention being terribly OOC - Pinkie’s usually rather perceptive - for no explained reason, of which PYHD actually managed to give for Fluttershy.

It’s not like Fluttershy was being mind controlled. Nobody forced her to follow what she learned in that seminar - she had total control of herself and opted to be a bitch to everyone around her. She also treated just about everybody in an entire city like dirt, whereas Pinkie was only with one character.
 
A crime committed against many people is worse than a crime committed against a single person. They’re both crimes regardless and should be treated as such, but when a criminal has multiple victims than they are generally worse than someone who committed the same crime against one person. Same logic applies here - they opted to act like they did, but one treated a large amount of people poorly whereas the other only treated one poorly. Both were wrong, but one was worse.

However, that was part of the episode; Fluttershy takes that seminar and becomes a jerk because of it, so it’s plot relevant. Pinkie in “Filli Vanilli” had no reason to be there and simply made things worse.

The writers were trying too hard to squeeze Pinkie into an episode where she clearly had no relevant part to play and her characterization suffered for it.

Sadly, that episode…Pinkie got waaay to carried away. But at the same time you got to remember the writers are just as at fault for makung her go to overboard.
