Description
According to her Twitter, Shannon Chan-Kent is a foodie. Silver Spoon’s Cutie Mark suddenly makes a whole lot of sense.

Still, that’s rather depressing. It’s no wonder Spoon is such a grey filly.
They’re not deliberately cruel to her, however. They’re just incredibly detached on a emotional level and they plan on divorcing once Silver is old enough to handle their separation.
Aww…
It’s because their fashion-based careers keeps them on the road away from her. She believes that they love their work more than their own daughter.
Perhaps Silver Spoon runs a coffee shop in Ponyville and has a tendency to nibble on the pastries she makes?

It’s an interesting concept, but I’m not sure I buy it: why would Hoity Toity and Photo Finish have a daughter that’s such a fuddy-duddy when it comes to fashion?
In my fanfic, Silver Spoon’s parents are Hoity Toity and Photo Finish. They are out of town a large percentage of the time and when Silver (who lives in a Ponyville estate and is looked after by servants) sees other foals who are lucky enough to have a mom and dad that they see every day, it makes her extremely jealous. She deals with this jealousy by being mean. It makes her feel better to bring other kids down to her level of misery.
I hid this uncomfortable My Little Pony in my mouth two years.
Actually, Spoon would probably be lower down on the economic ladder than Diamond Tiara. During the Middle Ages, silver spoons were carried by the middle classes (namely yeoman farmers and craftsmen) so they wouldn’t be mistaken for serfs or slaves and placed into bondage. As late as the 19th century, one of the most valuable parts of a middle class houseshold’s effects tended to be a set of silver cutlery. Spoon and Tiara may have met because Spoon’s father works for Diamond’s father in some sort of middle-management capacity (a traditional middle class occupation).

Interesting idea.
Diamond Tiara’s cutie mark is a pageant queen’s tiara, so presumably her special talent is popularity. She seems to be the ringleader of the background fillies and colts in Ponyville.
Silver Spoon’s cutie mark (and name) comes from the saying, “born with a silver spoon in her mouth”, meaning someone who was lucky enough to be from a wealthy and powerful family. We haven’t seen SS’s parents, but I’m guessing they’re even richer than Filthy Rich. SS’s own talent may just be that she’s very lucky/fortunate.
My headcanon is that Silver Spoon has the uncanny ability that the late Justin Wilson had. She can look at something that has volume and calculate the total units of measurement which comprise it. Example: just by looking at a pile of dirt, she could tell you how many quarts of it there are.
I’ve always assumed Tiara was a pageant winner, while Spoon baked stuff.

Ah, good. I thought it was someone who likes to shove silverware up their anuses and vaginas.
A person with a an ardent or refined interest in food and alcoholic beverages. Some enjoy cooking, while others just enjoy eating.
Someone, who has more interest in food than most other people.
Someone how likes food.
