I always thought the whole dragon greed-growth thing could be very easily exploited by making it so Spike replaces “treasure” with “friends” and learns how to grow a little based on his desire to protect his “hoard”, which for him means his friends. Of course, that’d mean giving him any sort of positive protagonism, so my hopes aren’t high.
With how far cartoons traditionally carry stereotypes, that sounds wholly possible, if not very entertaining. X3
They were as stock as stock teenagers could be. If anything, they’d have overbearing mothers to complete the stock-ness.
True, but not affectionate ones, at least as I see it. I figured the reason Garble and the rest of the teenaged dragon gang were such sociopaths was that their parents were uncaring.
They have mothers, though. Garble mentioned that.
Bottom line is, dragons normally lack empathy, having never experienced affection from their parents. Spike, having been raised by ponies, is far more emotionally “different” from the rest of his species than even he realizes. If he ever met his biological mother, it’d be a heartbreaking scene where he discovers she has absolutely no interest in him.
Oh, don’t even joke about that. They might do something like “Spike and Twilight only really met for the first time after he was hatched about a week before she got sent to Ponyville.” That would be the ultimate disaster; no real connection between them and nothing to justify why he’’s so loyal to what would essentially on be his boss. It would be an utter train wreck.
It’s also concerning that he said the same thing in regards to Celestia like, “Yeah we should probably have a Celestia episode.”
Maybe that’s just how he is.
There might fuck up the origin of how Spike have been with Twilight after she hatch him.
Last I heard he said he wanted to ‘age Spike up’ or ‘have him go on a solo adventure’. Both of these are interesting ideas, but are not the problems that Spike carries right now. Basically I read it less as “Oh yeah we have tons of ideas for Spike” and more as “Well I suppose we could do this. That would fix the way we handle him, right?”
As I mentioned, the way they run the show, I’m more inclined to believe his ‘solo adventure’ will end up him going alone to Fillydelphia and getting tempted with childhood censored versions of drugs and alcohol only to saved by Twilight and friends at the end followed by a lame lesson about not doing drugs.
They’re THAT disastrous.
What? Didn’t you hear him say what he wanted to do with Spike? It should give anyone hope for his character’s future.
You speak the truth.
At this point, the way Jim talks and the way the show’s been going, they have absolutely no imagination or motivation behind Spike’s character, his origins included. I wouldn’t hold any hope.
or stay*
not go
we got two luna episode and both are great and a background pony episode man anything could happen. But I doubt it since if we ever meet Spike’s parents the question of should he leave or go come up and that will be a head ache to deal with. personally I hope they reference his parents in some way but kind of like applejacks parents with the shooting stars.
Yeah, and maybe we’ll get a Celestia episode. Maybe.
You may never know. 6th season and all
