Yes, the main beef I’ve always had with FiM is the lack of world building. Even though they are starting to do that now, too little too late. They are always couped up in Ponyville for some odd reason. Couldn’t they instead have an entire season where the Mane 6 travel the world making new friends, and encountering new challenges like how The Last Airbender did?
 
Why, just why did the FiM staff think continuation don’t matter? Why do they refrain from world building?

Because some people like to watch a show before they decide if it’s good or bad. You should try it too. I know given their fanbase you’d like to think the show sucks. I expected the same. But damn, Steven Universe is amazing! It feels like an alternate version of MLP in a way, with friendship, acceptance, and cool magic fight scenes! It proves that the people in charge of MLP who thought “Continuity aint a big deal” had no clue what they were talking about. SU is MLP, but with the assumption that it’s going to be huge from the start. It gave us world building constantly whereas MLP has only just begun doing that this season.
 
Other shows also beat out MLP purely by respecting continuity more. Amazing how important that ended up being. Gravity Falls comes to mind there. Adventure Time however uses pretty much the same formula as MLP, but adds in a lot of mature themes which also puts it ahead of MLP, but that’s not something MLP could really have done differently.
 
It’s great to be here during the second golden age of cartoons.
