Have DT and Silver Spoon stop antagonizing the CMC’s first, then gradually warm up to them. Have a few episodes where they team up, but either Diamond or Silver’s behavior gets in the way. By the end of the episode - however - both groups of fillies have learned a valuable lesson about friendship and teamwork. Over time, they develop a bond and become friends. That’s what Gravity Falls did with Pacifica Northwest and I think it’d work for the fillies.
Barring that, have Silver Spoon pull an Armada Starscream: she teams up with the CMC’s against Diamond, but out of a desire for revenge, not out of a desire to make amends. However, she gradually warms up to the Crusaders and eventually extends a hoof to Diamond Tiara, trying to make peace between her old friend and her new friends.
That could be an interesting dynamic.
Have them stop antagonizing the CMC’s and make them “frenemies” or rivals instead; heck, maybe even have them help the CMC’s every once-in-awhile.
That was a somewhat different case, as it was more about “assertiveness,” rather then “bullying.” Still, I guess it’s a li’l similar situation.
And yeah, I’d hate to see them to make Silver another pseudo-antagonist like Babs, or a shallow one. Same with Tiara, but I’d like to see another side to them, so people get the idea they aren’t “pure evil, and must be punished with torture.”
I don’t think they’re going to use that ‘‘I was bullied so I became a bully orgin’’ twice

your current filter.I’d still rather have her be a clever schemer who knows exactly what she’s doing, but really, anything that isn’t “innocent victim” or “just ’cuz” would be a welcome and refreshing surprise.
You’re more-so describing Babs Seed then Spoon. I don’t think they’re going to use that “I was bullied so I became a bully orgin” twice. Plus I never liked the fanon that “Spoon is secretly nice, and doesn’t like Tiara’s actions” as that’s getting horribly cliche’. Sure she applauded Granny Smith, but she was just as relentless teasing Scoots about flying, and such, and did it with the intention to sabotage the CMC during said competition. So she’s been just as relentless as Tiara.
@Crystal Neighybánya
Yeah, I prefer the idea that they’re genuine friends, even if they don’t always get along. (Like with the shake gag.)
I wouldn’t want them fully-reformed, just redeemed a li’l, and shown to not be pure-evil, like some fans think. Like they could be somewhat nicer, but still be kinda jerky occasionally.
I did kinda like how Spoon & Tiara were a li’l nicer to the CMC, (even if it was brown-nosing) in “Twilight Time.” It kinda showed them as “nicer, but not too nice” which was an interesting take on them. There’s even a few brief moments where they come off as almost actually liking the CMC’s company, like when Tiara put her foreleg on Scootaloo’s back with a cute smile on her face, or when they were trying to help make the CMC more popular with other kids, and they invited them to the pool party, and such brief moments in the episode. Sure it was for selfish shallow reasons, but maybe a small part of them genuinely did enjoy the CMC’s company.
Yeah, Silver Spoon is kinda’ a Milhouse pony - she’s a dork who hangs out with a troublemaker and ends up getting roped into her pal’s schemes. There’s this one scene from Homer Defined I’ve always thought would work for the two of them:
@TexasUberAlles
Fear and Desperation are dangerous emotions.
That sounds like an interesting premise. Certainly a whole lot less cliched than the “Silver Spoon is 100% innocent” or “Silver Spoon is the real villain” extremes.
why is she staying by Diamond Tiara’s side when she torments the CMC
Ask anyone who ever joined up with a group of bullies in grade school to keep from being picked on themselves, or who just wanted to be in the clique that always came out on top. scared people do stupid things, it’s a universal constant.
She does seem to have at least some kind of genuine concern for DT– waaayyy more than DT has for anypony– but the two concepts aren’t mutually exclusive; it’s easier to ride a friendly bandwagon than one where the drummer keeps trying to kick you off. I’d also really like an episode where the CMC confront her and we find out that SS knows full well what an ass DT is, and is trying her best to steer her onto a less assish path because she’s worried her friend will grow up to be a complete hole.
Bart and Milhouse, good analogy! I absolutely agree.
And I also am aware of Silver genuinely liking Diamond, I never said she didn’t. But I see Diamond having a crush she’s determined to hide, thus she tries not to let it show too much that she’s fond of Silver in case she got too comfortable and somepony were to catch on.
@TexasUberAlles
All evidence in the show points towards Silver Spoon genuinely liking Diamond Tiara, however.
And if Silver Spoon is only tagging along with DT for her own benefit and knows when to vanish into the background (as you say), why is she staying by Diamond Tiara’s side when she torments the CMC’s - an action that does nothing to further her own ambitions and would probably damage her reputation amongst her peers?
@PhonicB∞m
Yeah, I could see Silver Spoon as a wallflower (dem glasses); If Diamond Tiara was Bart Simpson, Silver Spoon would be Milhouse.
My headcanon is that Diamond is gay, but hides her feelings for fear of her father’s and peers’ reactions, and so bullies the CMC so that everypony is too busy laughing at them to see the cracks in her own armor. Silver, on the other hoof, is a wallflower, and latched onto Diamond for popularity. Neither of them knows the other is only fronting, so this goes on for some years before puberty adds hormones into the mix, and Diamond eventually breaks down and spills her feelings to… Sweetie Belle, because she doesn’t want to disgust Silver with her lesbian crush if Silver doesn’t feel the same way (but she doesn’t care if Belle hates her, nothing new; and if Belle said anything, everypony would just think she was spreading rumours cuz the rivalry is common knowledge).
I’d be happy if the writers did what they did with Discord - good doesn’t always mean nice, after all.
Yeah, as I said in our previous discussion about it, other kid shows like “Rugrats,” and “Salute Your Shorts” have had episodes focused on the “bully” character, and showed other more appealing sides to their personality. I’d like to see them do something like that with Tiara & Spoon, without watering them down, or reforming them to much.
Maybe, maybe not. I’m sanguine on the whole issue, however, and think it’s certainly doable and that the writers certainly could pull it off. I mean, we got an episode focused on Gilda - there’s nothing stopping them and it seems like the writers are beginning to warm up to the idea of development for Team Sugarlump Rumps.
While I don’t ascribe to the Silver Spoon is gay for Diamond Tiara theory, I do find it good for a cheap laugh.
Yeah, I don’t think giving them much development is a huge priority for the show, so it seems like they’ll always just be plot-devices, or obsticles.
Tiara’s singing was kinda cute in “Pinkie Pride” though. Maybe there is another side to these bullies the show hasn’t addressed yet though.
The fanbase has given them far more thought than the writers have (especially post S2), that’s for sure. The way fans like Yukito and Bootsy Slickmane write them, they’re actual characters as opposed to plot devices or obstacles for the Crusaders’ to overcome.
@Kappe
That scene, her trying to cheer up Diamond Tiara after the Crusaders’ steal the show and her clapping are the only hints at character development we’ve gotten for her in five seasons. Kinda’ sad, really. Although if DT gets her own episode in S5, perhaps Silver Spoon will get one in S6.
The make up sessions are worth it, surely.
@Kappe
Yeah, it kinda shows Spoon’s a bit assertive.
Plus, I kinda like the idea that Tiara & Spoon even pick on each other sometimes, but still get along.
My favorite scene of her.
