Description
A scene from my story over on fimfiction. Twilight facing off against the Thousand Sons sorcerer Ahzek Ahriman.
One of a few encounters I wanted to get in the story, and it came out fairly well, (at least, in my own opinion).
For those that haven’t looked, the story revolves around a staff. This item is actually a crozius named ‘Illuminarum’, which was originally wielded by the primarch of the Wordbearers, Lorgar Aurelian. You’d need to read the Horus Heresy novel ‘Betrayer’ to get the connection.
To cut a long story short, Celestia sends Twilight and her friends to get the weapon because it’s full of psychic energy which she believes can be used to safeguard Equestria.
Ahriman’s after it because he collects powerful relics.
At this point in the story, Twilight is trying to buy some time for her friends to get away with the staff.

Can’t fight him if she runs away….
The Crozius is supposed to have been sat in an Imperial chapel for near 10,000 years, gathering power. It’s basically full of warp energy when the ponies and Ahriman are going after it.
To the point it’s actually going to cause problems when Celestia tries to use it.
In the novel ‘Betrayer’, Lorgar goes down to a planet to save his brother primarch Angron. At that point in the novel, he hurls the crozius at an Ultramarines thunderhawk, then uses telekinesis to bring the aircraft down. Then he turns his attention to rescuing Angron. He never retrieves his weapon.
For the story, we can assume that the crozius was recovered by loyalist forces in the wake of the battle.
Both Ahriman and Celestia’s operative (Octavia Melody), have learned of the weapon. Ahriman has instigated a large scale battle in order to destroy the loyalist forces guarding that world. The ponies turn up in the wake of that battle, and there’s just a few scattered forces left from each side. Twilight saves the last survivors of the loyalist forces (a commander, a sentinel pilot, a chimera transport with a driver, a single heavy weapon’s guy, two female guard, and a ratling sniper).
