It’s not so much that Shining Armor would have been married to a shapeshifting succubus (Oh no! Now having sex with Cadence is cheating!), It’s that he would have been married to a shapeshifting succubus (My soul!).

Maybe the Changelings are running from something. They had a pretty huge swarm to attack Canterlot with. Perhaps their land has been destroyed by something (maybe they were invaded by this Crystal Empire we’ve been hearing about) and the Queen had to convert her people into a traveling, ravaging hoard until they could find a new home. It would explain why they didn’t take the capture of Canterlot slow and steady (which seems like the best strategy for Changelings, just kill and replace until you can take everyone in their beds). Hell, since Changelings are very insect like, maybe they’ve been running since Chrysalis was small (thus her dream of conquering and having a nation) and she matured in a matter of weaks, which would explain her fixation on Equestria and the pointed out lack of professionalism to her strategy.

That would be my point exactly. Chrysalis certainly deserves all the attention from the fandom, she was done pretty damn excellently. A little more exposition would have been nice, though, but I can live with what we got.

That actually makes her a better villain. The fact of the matter is, Celestia is going to be older then most villains. Discord and other ancient evils the exception, but regardless, more powerful then any other evil ruler in Equestria. Chrysalis was the underdog in the fight with Celestia, yet she won with pure will, even though she’s probably a fraction of Celestia’s immortal age.

Speaking of green… Chrysalis is a shapeshifter, and has the ability to utterly become a completely different being. Yet her disguise sucked, she was incredibly out of character and if the others hadn’t been all googly-eyed over the wedding and knew Cadence prior, her cover would have blown within three minutes.

Queen Chrysalis seemed to be the one under the most pressure. Given her obvious surprise at how well things were going up until the end, she was clearly a very green villain. That, and if Changelings actually have to feed on love rather than just growing strong off of it, she might have been desperate to feed them.

Hell, the whole plan smacked of desperate, period. Impersonate a love goddess so that you can feast off of her fiance’s “pure love” and save your people? That sure is practical!

Can anyone guess at when the invasion was planned to begin? How do they benefit from waiting until after the ceremony? Was their plan to get everyone they needed (Princesses, army officers, Elements of Harmony) in one spot and kill them in one swoop? Wasn’t Chrysalis surprised that she managed to KO Celestia though? If she needed Shining to lower the shield, she had him under her thrall for some time. Why do it then when everypony is on high alert? Why not wait for the threat to pass? Why did they even make a threat if their strategy relies on surprise?

Queen Chrysalis: Not a great tactician.
