The thing that I find funny about people who deliberately take a photo of themselves burning a book or something similar, is that most likely they had bought that item before they photograph themselves destroying it.
So while I’m sure that the person behind the book would like for people to learn something by reading it, in the end it comes down to how much money they get from sales.

There are several shades of distinction between “have a different point of view about a certain problem” and “violently hate the concept of discussing or thinking about a certain problem, to the point of declaring any attempt to do so an act of war”. The nuances tend to be lost on some people, who accuse others of “not tolerating anyone who even slightly disagrees with them” in the same breath that they call them evil mindless monsters who should be wiped off the face of the planet.

It’s kind of a cult mentality. Those that disagree must be purged from your life and any environment that does not exist within the echo chamber must be removed from your life. Once the brony fandom started to become less of an echo chamber for social justice (because, as I recall, it used to be just that), it became a “toxic” environment and social justice warriors started to actively refuse to participate publicly, preferring sites like TRS. Privately, they still participate with one another as bronies, but only with bronies that engage in the social justice crusade. Publicly, they denounce bronies that participate in the fandom publicly.

I know of at least one EQD regular (DrForester), not to mention a member of EQD staff (TheIllustriousQ) who’re involved with TRS. The former, actually, is how I heard about TRS in the first place. And I don’t know why they get this bad rap, because I’ve been hanging around there a while now and they seem to be a bunch of real nice people.

I wouldn’t imagine that they’d make the connection between bronies and SJWs. And even so, a friend should know whether or not you’re an SJW. Lastly, I would hope that a friend would at least be willing to give the show a chance if s/he can’t just accept your preferences in entertainment.

So if I engage in the risky behavior of letting my friends at work know that I’m a actively participating brony, should I be more concerned at them judging me based on my interests in a colorful cartoon, or that they might think that I participate in a social justice warrior cult?

Well, I know that part. I meant I just don’t understand how someone’s motivation to quit would be “some people don’t agree with me, have a nuanced view of something, or offend me.”
