All adult ponies in G1 had the same shaped muzzle or male or female. Only really difference between male and female G1 ponies was that the males had unshorn fetlocks, and were a little bigger and bulkier. They were also all earth ponies, but it was something.
Today I learned gay marriage has been legal for over 30 years in Equestria. :3
Glory and Moondancer are both quite female, but when they wanted to make wedding figurines, the lack of any male characters at the time resulted in making a wedding set of them, with Glory referred to with male pronouns (while looking like her unchanged self; not bigger or with squarer muzzle like boy ponies get.)

My special somepony watched the whole show up to that point but wasn’t ever part of the fandom, and so never even noticed those two existed, let alone considered them an OTP. The first best friends moment was all it took; marriage + eventual magic lesbian spawn was instantly headcanoned.

Sweetie Belle gave Scootaloo her helmet, using magic, followed by the pony version of a high five = Best friends.
In short, Lyra and Bon Bon are lovers, Skootaloo and Sweetie Belle are best friends.
