The three secondary character Princesses have to share what little spotlight they can get. Luna got her episode with Apple Bloom, Celestia got a few lines at the Gala, and this was Cadance’s turn. It was nice to see Cadance get a role again even if it was mostly acting as Spike’s conscience when you’d think she would have more important things to do.

Luna’s one line then disappearance for the rest of the episode is what I meant. And replacement with Cadance.  
Though that’s pretty much par for the course.
 
Kidding aside, this did have something of the feel of the Luna/CMC arc, though with Cadance taking the responsible adult role. She does have a somewhat different style though - sceptical but unable to directly see motive (“as long as that’s the real reason you’re doing it…), more willing to get directly involved to stem the tide of disaster (Luna would have led Spike to the waters and then made him think, so to speak, which would be enough in a dreamscape). But yeah, a similar pattern.
 
(I’m glad Cadance got an airing too, and that the two are not just being treated as completely interchangeable by the writers)

There were plenty of problems with Princess Spike but how was it a bait and switch? I knew just from the title it was going to be about Spike misusing power and messing things up.
