Personally I found Spike’s characterization to be one of the few pluses in this episode, the real issue at hand here is that there was no real way for him to solve the issues raised in this episode outside of the way he did it here, after all it was made explicitly clear that Twilight was in no state to make any decisions and apparently none of the other princesses could take over for damage control should something go wrong. What else was he supposed to do?!

So stating ones opinion counts as being passive aggressive?
 
Well then, this whole fandoms got the most passive aggressive sons a hitches this side of the Milky Way.
 
Hell, we got folks whose entire contribution is stating their opinions on episodes, IE being passive aggressive, I guess.
 
I get it, in a way. Big Jim to a lot of folks here is evidently a terrible writer and can’t take a critique without melting down, if what I’m reading is right. But come on, some of these complaints are tacked on, at best.

Spike getting way over his head and then fixing it with an apology. on top of that it was a painful episode to watch and it’s hard to enjoy especially after it’s been done so many times. that’s why my rating for the episode is a political scandal out of ten

I can understand where Jim is coming from, but I think it isn’t good to treat fans who have complaints as being never satisfied and throw the baby out with the bathwater about how they want 100% perfection.
 
Again, no reasonable person acts for perfection. It’s just that this was a very tired story idea that was actually done better in other episodes, and didn’t really make much sense within itself.

Hey Jim. We are not looking for a masterpiece. We just don’t want the same recycled story of Spike getting in over his head and fixing it with a apology, it’s gotten old and makes for a boring episode with the background ponies being the only thing keeping me interested.

I think some people are just perpetually unsatisfied with the way Spike is “handled”, always explaining his actions through the “forever a child” meta they’re too stubborn to drop, refusing to see things any other way.

The only good thing about it is hearing Fancypants again, but other than that, it was meh.
