Background Pony #8E61
More just like “idiot writers trying to present character as bad despite poor writing not really showing it” ball.

Background Pony Number 17
My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

Spike didn’t grab the Idiot Ball this episode. It was thrust into his hands.

If anyone’s to blame for the way things went south in this episode, it’s Twilight Sparkle and Cadance. Twilight’s supposed to be the “organized” one; you’d think her planning would include getting a good night’s sleep so that she wouldn’t be passing out just as the summit got started. And Cadance was pretty useless. She saw that Spike was getting in over his head, but actually believed him when he said he had it under control. Seriously, Cadance? Spike’s just a kid; he’d rather tell a lie than admit he’s not able to handle the job YOU gave him to do.
