Well, both holidays originated in different towns on Thursday. They got into an argument, and after the Backwards Day town’s champion won the arm-wrestling match, the Opposite Day town moved theirs to Friday. But then they realized it was Backwards Day, so they switched.
I’d love to hear it explained, then.
You said it yourself: that was Opposite Day. Today is Backwards Day. They’re exactly the same, and just happen to be consecutive. There’s actually a fascinating history behind this phenomenon.
If it’s opposite day today, then what was it yesterday when I posted that comment? :P

This is not at all what I expected from the thumbnail.
One note on the tags, that’s the Bugbear hugging Fluttershy, not the Ursa Minor.
I’m perfectly aware of that; her tag, however, was present.
